I’m sorry this happened to them and I hope NVSL will do the right thing. What a terrible thing to do to little kids.

Coaches were informed at 3:45 PM. Meet started at 4 PM. Right before clerking, kids got a scary speech about staying inside the green tape. Rutherford was an awesome host (thank you!), but the timing of this update was not ideal.

Agreed. Just wrote the same thing about my daughter, who learned about this thing from an 8 year old, so it wasn’t even accurate and just caused more stress and incorrect overcorrection.

From the livestream recording (which can still be viewed), it doesn't look like KG had any issue with the wall. So DQ was likely something else.

Not sure how you came to this conclusion. They were in lane 1 so had the weird edge on their start side which you can’t even see on the live stream. That entire corner/section is out of view on the video. If they had DQd for something else it would say so like for all the other DQs.

You missed one: Event 3 8 and under medley Kent Gardens DQ for "other"

and others have mentioned that their swimmers were very stressed about this during their races.

My daughter (lead off back in lane 1) learned this from another swimmer. She didn’t understand what they meant and heard “don’t touch the wall or side in lane 1.” She’s experienced and older, yet flipped out so much about it that she said she swam slow so she wouldn’t come anywhere close to the side. She added 2+ seconds. This whole meet was a debacle, much because of the heat and water temps (nobody can change but someone should have advised Rutherford to state throwing in ice and adding cold water that morning).

My kids are in the same B meet group with Rutherford, and I've been a stroke and turn judge at B meets at Rutherford maybe 4 or 5 times, and I don't remember ever being told anything about the lanes. And it wasn't in the pre-meet info for ASR. My guess is that someone at one of the hyper competitive top division teams noticed the wall curve and brought it up as an unfair advantage.

The team reps get a carbon copy of the DQ sheet. A box indicating the reason has to be checked

correct but the reason isn't always listed on the meet results like for AS events.

Curious if there were disproportionate DQs in lanes 1 and 6 for technical violations. The officials likely also learned about the tape right before the meet and probably paid extra attention to those lanes on turns and finishes, which is counter to stroke and turn protocol of equal scanning of lanes in your jurisdiction vs. focusing too much on one lane and being more likely to catch a technical violation.

At the end of the day, who cares, but the green tape was a poorly communicated and unusual curve ball for all involved.

ah so that was the reason for the 3:45 pm coaches meeting. Insane! Should have been outlined in meet guides, at pool familiarization day and emailed out to reps as soon as they realized this issue.
