MCPS’ schools have their own issues but so do private schools. On the whole, you can get a really strong education and often better what private schools offer.

I’m also a huge advocate for public school and I was a public school teacher for over a decade. I spoke up frequently about the over-testing, the low standards, and the useless initiatives that only served to keep people employed in offices. Students aren’t receiving a quality education, and ultimately I left. I grew tired of fighting and I was sickened by what I saw behind the curtain. I put my own children in private.

Private isn’t perfect, but it’s better. And now that I work in one and see behind its curtain, I don’t feel as sick by what I see.

I will be moving into Montgomery County next month as I couldn’t pass down the opportunity to move into a home that I inherited from a relative. I know what doesn’t make the news and I’m not happy with the direction MCPS is going.

Thanks!
It’s not so much the academics it’s the behavior. The behavior has gotten to the point that it is currently at due to lack of consequences. I’m not anti-RJ but repeat offenders need stronger consequences when the message isn’t working.
We’ve had students caught with weed and knives who are out of the building for only a day. I like the fact that private schools seem to have more control over what they will and will not tolerated.

As taxpayers, we are so happy that your privilege can afford you a free house and private school tuition.

As a taxpayer, I really don’t care how she affords her house, ESPECIALLY since my taxes are not paying for it.

Similarly, how she spends her salary really isn’t my business. I do wish the public schools were better so she didn’t feel that private schools were necessary.

Not in MCPS though.

You should be happy she's stuck around for 20 years! Many staff are leaving the MCPS hellscape.

Left last year and would never go back!

Do you know if private schools give tuition discounts to teachers (or other government employees)?

Christ Episcopal School in Rockville gives scholarships to first responders and Rockville City employees and may do other government employees but am not sure. My neighbor is a police officer and her DD goes there.

Darling school!!

No. IF accepted and they apply for financial aide they may qualify for aide depending on the family financial situation. Private school is a luxury. You either have the funds to pay or make sacrifices

Yes for staff at the school.

‘Why I’m a Public School Teacher But a Private School Parent’

Here’s another similar article but different author from a couple of years ago:

‘Why I’m a Public-School Teacher but a Private-School Parent’
https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2015/03/why-im-a-public-school-teacher-but-a-private-school-parent/386797/

These articles would be more better if teachers said “I love the idea of public school but I don’t like them as they don’t achieve that idea.” Or “I love the salary and benefits they provide but don’t like the education model.” It’s like saying I love my house but sent my kids to live in another home. Then you really don’t love it or there is something you don’t love that is greater.
