West coast: U. Puget Sound, Willamette.

Lake Forest is on the train line to Chicago and has a decent reputation, maybe a bit more pre-professional.

Clark University in Mass might be in range, and I think is very underrated.

If Lake Forest, try DePaul in IL
Other IL schools could be relatively lower even out of state, but IL is further west in the Midwest region if kid doesn't want to be too far from VA. As forWest Coast schools, another one for Puget Sound - lovely area can't remember how much $ it is nowadays. Portland State U., Washington State, Univ of Idaho Moscow. There are SO many colleges out there close to 5000!

Not EA but for some OOS options there is a chance for Delaware, CofC, Vermont, UMass Amherst, UNCW, UNH

Would get deferred, then can show extreme interest and maybe get in

SAT was 1200 as predicted. Higher in verbal than math.

Where else would you recommend?

Geographical preference? Budget? Field of study?

That is so great to hear! It is such a small percentage that live on campus , but it is a huge school. Are there enough people on campus to feel like a community? Does it not feel like a commuter school? I think George Mason is a much better school than it's desirability around here would indicate.

+100
It absolutely is. People around here disparage it simply due to it's proximity (familiarity breeds contempt, etc.). Any school, anywhere has the problem of locals thinking it's "too" local.

If willing to travel, U of A has excellent merit and support systems. East coast stay instate and try for JMU but be ok with VCU.
