Some jerk hit it, and left, clearly.
It's reassuring to know that I wasn't the only one concerned. The police informed me that they had already received a call and were preparing to investigate.
We had a black bear cub in MoCo many times but never heard of someone shooting it. I ran into one when I was on a walk with my dog.
This is another reason for me to dislike Virginia, among many other reasons. I wonder if it was a NoVa resident who hit our MoCo fawn.
How do you know the driver isn't the one who called?
You are correct, I don't know. Thank you for correcting me. Probably was the driver. Which makes me think even more highly of Maryland citizens. They do not shoot bears like their counterparts in NoVa.
If the bear died in Maryland, it would probably be because it choked on one of those overrated crab cakes.
Maryland bears have exquisite taste and know that Maryland blue crabs are the best food. It would have died happy. In Virginia, the poor bear was shot because it was black, a common cause of death for many in Virginia.
Actually, Alaska Red King crab is the best but most Alaskan bears can't get to those.

But that begs the question why did they travel into Arlington? Perhaps their radius for picking up dead deer and other wildlife includes Arlington?
Pure speculation, of course. Trying to make sense of this incident.

Not sure why but I keep chuckling at this quote. So obvious!

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:The bear was struck by a vehicle in Prince William County, stuffed in the garbage bag, driven 20-odd miles and dumped in Arlington. WTF?
At approximately 3:30 PM this afternoon, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) was notified by the Department of Wildlife Resources that a company contracted by the Virginia Department of Transportation (not VDOT employees) took responsibility for the incident. They stated that the bear had been struck by a vehicle on I-66 in Prince William County, and then workers transported the bear to Arlington and illegally dumped the bear over an overpass onto the Custis Memorial Trail.

can you imagine seeing or being hit by this being thrown over the overpass soundwall?
