Or maybe it's just men who seem to have them in their ears all day (doing what, listening to NPR or podcasts all day? like they can't just enjoy some silence and their own thoughts). I can't explain it but it gives me the ick.
what do you expect them to do for sound?

An adult woman posting that something gives her the "ick" shows her stupidity and lack of class.
She (the OP) and the other PPs could have worked harder to create something that did not make them appear to be 12 girls playing on Mom's computer.
“The ick” or “ick” is common vernacular among 20 and 30-something women. Distilled translation is a sudden feeling of instant turn-off.
Why 'the ick' isn't a superficial phrase used by 'picky women', but is actually a way of protecting ourselves from men who can't handle rejection
We use 'the ick' to soften the blow; to blame it on a psychological phenomenon we have no control over.

A comment that rivals the stupidity of the original post. Lovely.

Exactly my thought!
I wear AirPods when I walk so that I don't disturb others. I listen to audiobooks and am learning a language. If anyone wants to judge me, that's on them.
I think this response teases out the male personality type that does this, which makes it ick. Having AirPods in your ear all day so you can pretend to "read" countless books is ick. A male putting a piece of electronics in his ears to avoid the world around him is ick. It's just not masculine behavior.
How does OP or you for that matter, know if he has the airpods in all day? She's describing random men she sees outside. She has no idea what they're listening to or how long they're listening to it.
Imagine if a guy posted "Grown women walking around without makeup/without their nails done/not smiling/etc. turns me off." He'd be crucified and rightfully so. Women don't exist to provide visual entertainment for men. Likewise, men don't exist to live out some romance novel fantasy of what men should look like.
This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read on this board. I hope OP is no older than 15, that would excise the post somewhat.

What would you like them to use?
I agree with the PP who said it’s highly rude to keep them in when taking to someone else but headphones and earbuds have a distinct purpose.
Of course they have a purpose, especially at work. But wearing them all day and taking selfies with them, which you put in your dating profiles, is bad optics.

-guy with 3 pairs of AirPods that is thinking of upgrading to the new version.
Do you wear all 3 pairs at the same time, because that would be ultra icky.
