I hope this finds you safe and well; I am sorry to hear that the protest has affected the enjoyment of your home, I can only imagine how frustrating the constant siren is for you and your neighbors. Unfortunately, the protests outside of the Embassy of Israel are taking place on property that is under the jurisdiction of the federal US Secret Service, which is the lead law enforcement agency monitoring the demonstrations. They are responsible for enforcing regulations pertaining to First Amendment activity outside the Embassy, and we have seen reports that Secret Service officers have arrested or removed individuals who have violated those restrictions. MPD is supporting the Secret Service through a visible presence in the area of the demonstrations and will provide additional support, if needed by the Secret Service, to respond to issues as they arise. While the Secret Service is not under the jurisdiction of the city or the Council, the Councilmember is engaging with both the Secret Service and MPD regarding the concerns that have been raised with his office and what he has observed during regular site visits to the Embassy and Ambassador’s residence, and to understand fully the legal landscape related to the protests. He will continue to be engaged and monitor the situation.

It sounds like the legal argument about the decibels needs to be directed to the secret service? Is anyone doing this?


I think they are just using secret service as an excuse to avoid responsibility for the problem. The side walk is probably owned/controlled by DC anyway. The secret service is unlikely to respond to your requests and they almost certainly won’t help you. This secret service excuse is the perfect way to redirect people and make it seem like there is nothing DC can do.


MPD is the one to enforce noise, and blocking streets and sidewalks. (Also DDOT because they have unauthorized structures blocking sidewalks.) But it is Mayor Bowser who instructs MPD whether or not to enforce (as with the GW encampment and vandalism). Residents have to call the mayor’s office and demand enforcement 202-727-2643

The scaffolding and signs are 24/7.There are usually only 1-2 protestors (often sleeping in chairs or a tent) on their “night shift”.

They are blocking sidewalks with their 24/7 wooden structures and encampments. Lawyers, if they are thus blocking access for pedestrians and people in wheelchairs isn't that something that is actionable? Doesn't the city have an obligation to maintain ADA access?

Also, neighbors, don't just complain to Frumin. Write and call all four of our at-large council members and to the mayor.

They did a good job of clearing out the homeless encampments in Dupont, they can take care of these Nazi campsites, too.
