My DD was denied yesterday, despite both parents and one grandparent graduating undergrad.
One parent also got an MBA there, one grandparent got their JD there and one grandparent taught there for 15 years.
What's that, 6 hooks?
Stats weren't perfect (obviously), but were on par for a gimme admission.
She wasn't going to go even if she got in but I have to admit to being shocked.
This. My kid is a legacy + more than two decades as a professor.
Well I guess there were kids more qualified---better scores, grades, ECs and essays. Maybe the tide is changing and GU is backing off its really ridiculous stance on legacy where any distant connection--a grad or law or whatever was considered enough to propel someone over a candidate that had no hooks.

12%

It was garbage.
You make yourself sound worse with every post. I cannot believe you actually wrote this - if your DD is anything like you, that surely came across in her application and interview. And that would not have helped.
If she wasn’t a recruited athlete why would Georgetown give an eff about her “many athletic accomplishments”? Maybe she was expected to discuss academics and service consistent with a Jesuit ethic? Something tells me that was not her forte.

It's laughably obvious the "GU Interviewers" are one poster. The syntax, tone, speed of response, uniform message, etc. not to mention how illogical it is to assume there were four separate and unique interviewers on this forum in the span of ...two hours.
Amateur trolls with sub standard kids, They are angry their prodigy is.... stupid.
Jeff will confirm.
I hope he does; he'll prove you wrong.

+1. I’m an GU alumni interviewer. Just to correct the record factually, interviews are assigned at random based on where you live. There was no “woke conspiracy” against your daughter. I’m a minority and have interviewed many prospective students, from both similar and dissimilar backgrounds, and a student’s different background or accomplishments have never impacted my interview report. You are gross, and if your daughter is anything like you, I applaud the GU admissions office.
I’m sure your fair and not prejudiced but I know a GU alum in DC who is an admissions interviewer and I could completely see her rejecting someone’s kid just because she doesn’t like the parent.
You re giving the alumni interviewers way too much power. They do not admit nor reject anyone. They are mostly there to answer questions.

You see nothing - bc alum interviewers reject no one.
The interviewer can of course tip the scale one way or the other. Surely you can agree to that.

They won't get a penny ever again. The grandparent that taught there is literally writing them out of their will today. It was a six figure donation. It's the internet so no one will believe me. Reaction from my undergrad friends is bad, bad, bad. I had kids first in the group and we all assumed she was a shoe in.
What’s a shoe in?
A shoo-in is an idiomatic expression used to describe something or someone that is almost certain to succeed or win. It implies that the outcome is practically guaranteed, as if it were already decided. For example, if a highly skilled athlete competes against much less experienced opponents, we might say that victory for the athlete is a “shoo-in.” It’s like saying, “No doubt about it!”
