You would think wrong. The state printed them and gave them to MCPS in the fall to send out. They have had electronic access even longer.

If not, scores aren't comparable between years.

Nope took it in 7th grade and the results were comparable. I think both years only the top one or two percent got 4s.

So clearly a 4 is not necessary for succeeding at Blair SMACS, because many students with solid post-Algebra MAP scores, and winning state and national level math awards like Mathcounts, AMC, and Kangaroo, are getting 3s.

Makes me think the test is poorly calibrated.

It's not calibrated at all. Just a pair of context-free numbers.

It seems like if you are one of the kids who score in the top 0.001% on MAP you might get a 4 otherwise 3 or lower on MCAP.

The state send the info to MCPS. MCPS was giving out SSL hours for students to get the mails ready back in December. They are not mailed from the state, but from MCPS.

MCPS should return this junk back to the state. We shouldn't have to do their dirty work.

Actually, it seems like they managed to understand it. Further, the state is perfectly able to mail these out themselves.

MAP is a fine test. I'd pay attention to that not MCAP.

MAP is also an MCPS test, whereas MCAP is a state test. It isn't MCPS job to handle MCAP. If you are unhappy, write your state legislator about it.

MCPS has to follow MSDE requirements. And MSDE is requiring MCPS to distribute the reports.

MCPS doesn’t want parents to know how badly their kids are doing in school. Here everyone gets As, and everyone is meeting standards!

There are parents who presume their kid is doing fine because kid gets straight As. MCAP report iis an important data point for them. Even MAP reports aren’t usually sent home — you have to know to go to ParentVue to find it. Not all parents are as in-the-know as DCUM parents.

Do not hesitate to contact Central Office for answers. You are a tax paying county resident. From recent news about Central Office, we know they may not have the people there to do the job to get the reports out within a reasonable time period.
