Its fine either way, anyone getting irritated by such trivial things needs help to find out real reason it bothers them.

I find it annoying.

+1 This thread is a perfect example of people making mountains out of molehills. Some posters are reading waaaay too much into people referring to “Mom” and “Dad.” As my teenager likes to say, it’s not that deep.

Aw, now I feel bad! She speaks English as a second language, technically, so she may well have meant it was strange, but I do think she found it interesting in a linguistic quirk sort of way rather than truly grating. Of course, I am apparently quite self-absorbed and emotionally stunted — and really, where is the lie? — so who knows.

I remembered this thread today and came back to check how it developed and am so fascinated.

I think it's internally cringe-worthy. I know a woman who is in her 50s who refers to her mom as "Mommy" on FB posts. That's alarming. She's an executive at a huge company too, with a couple of advanced degrees.
