Union has had a steady decline in results in the league the last few years and grasping for partners because they need players.

What? Who cares what they do later? That is based on things that have not happened yet. Many of the McLean (and Arlington) girls use soccer to lock uin an elite college that is a crap shoot now even if you have the credentials to get in. Most would love to play soccer. Most do. But if they did not they are in the college they wanted. They win.

Scroll down this list of Union commits on soccerwire:

https://www.soccerwire.com/club/virginia-union-fc/?filter=eyJzb3J0X2J5IjoibWV0YS5pc19mZWF0dXJlZC5yYXciLCJzb3J0X2RpcmVjdGlvbiI6ImRlc2MiLCJxdWVyeSI6IiIsInNlbGVjdGVkRmlsdGVycyI6e30sInNlbGVjdGVkUmFuZ2VGaWx0ZXJzIjp7fSwiY3VycmVudFBhZ2UiOjF9

Lots of Union girls are using soccer to get into college and good colleges at that. It’s ridiculous to argue about college playing time when other DMV clubs aren’t even getting their girls into college or onto college teams.

What club in this area is producing girls who are impact players on their college teams?

What are you talking about? Their ECNL players have a VERY good track record with recruitment.

Think what you want, big guy. We are going to dominate this market.

The issue is this -- of the 2025 college commits for D1 -- 70% are ECNL. About 20% are GA. Can GA work for college -- yes of course. Does ECNL work better/offer a better path -- yes of course? Many players (not all) would rather be at ECNL.

ECNL dropped from 90% to 70% market share to a new competitor in just a few years? That actually sounds like pretty good traction for GA!

No it’s not. And it was never 90. DA was beating the crap out of ECNL and then they folded. GA is not what DA was.

On the girls side SYC strikes me as confident(or arrogant) enough to believe it’s better to be all SYC in GA than lost as part of Union in ECNL. I don’t know the inner workings of the Club but some one there has taken an after thought Club and made it into a player the last few years. No clue if it’s been good for the kids but I bet it’s been great for bottom line.

SYC has continually impressed with their talent, skill development throughtout girls and boys. The key with the GA development is that now they have an option for their girls to stay. SYC youth teams are always good in the key development years 6-12 years old, but would fall off. SYC is certainly making moves, color me intrigued.

SYC about to lose all their top players to ECNL squads. Shame since SYC has a good opportunity to enhance the Girls Academy brand in this area and change the perception of ECNL being the only option for high level competition.

Location + playing time at younger ages would be key to coming back.
