I have one leg of a flight on Jan 20 that says its a 737 Max 9 on United. Since they are mostly grounded, I don't know if United will find another aircraft by then or cancel the flight and rebook on a different flight (that would no longer be direct)?

There are two (major) types of 737s-
NG (new generation)- the 700s, 800s and 900s. These stopped being construction a few years ago, and there are many more of them flying. None of them have been grounded
MAX- the 8 and 9. These are newer ones with the newer design that has caused issues. Of these, the 8 is not grounded, and some (most?) of the 9s are, but not all.

Even if they're not cancelled I would cancel and rebook on another plane type. All that said, I thought all 737 Max 9's were grounded by the FAA for the time being.
