Oh please! You have to agree; any sane person agrees: the current board is a total disaster.

They are a single-party echo chamber. They have repeatedly indicated they won’t listen to anyone.

The only solution here involves electing at least a few Rs to the board.

The current board’s past behavior is indefensible.

What school board? I see a lot of "the school board is awful" without any county mentioned, let alone specifics if why they are awful. I think the whole thread is trolling.

don’t be disingenuous. fcps.

This is a thread about Northern VA. Seems like you are lost.
What do you think FCPS stands for?

Not “Northern Virginia”
Come on now. What does FCPS stand for? We'll get you there.

Again, this is a thread about 2023 elections in Northern VA. There are several local jurisdictions and dozens of elections.

We get that you irrationally hate FCPS, but there are other elections the rest of us are discussing.
Typical woke deflection. FCPS stands for Fairfax County Public Schools. Fairfax County is in Northern Virginia. In fact, it's the most populous and most influential part of Northern Virginia. Some people want to discuss the elections in Fairfax County.

“Woke”? You sound really smart.

This thread is about NoVA elections. When someone was complaining about school boards, someone else asked, “What school board?“

Then school board complainer got butthurt because we didn’t know which of the many school boards he was referring to.

I agree with the earlier PP. Seems like a lot of trolling.

DP. "Many"? There are four school districts in NoVA: FCPS, LCPS, APS, PWCS. It's beyond obvious who the trolls are ^^^

B) you’re a partisan hack who would find any reason whatsoever to justify your Dem vote.

Don’t hide behind abortion when defending your vote for the crappy Dem candidate. They suck and you know it, just embrace your vote for them at this point.

Exactly this. So sick of morons inserting abortion into discussions about the school board.

Republicans continually use the abortion discussion as a political tool to bind the conscience of Christian voters; the Christians feel they MUST vote Republican or else they are sinnning. Republicans take advantage of this to get votes, then do whatever they (Republicans) want to do in office in area that are not related to abotion. So yes, the abortion issue matters.

Whatever you say. I’m a pro-choice Republican but abortion is not my only issue, especially this year. We get that it’s yours though.

Except you’re ok if abortion is banned in VA.

Except abortion isn't banned in VA.

If you are voting R for VA legislators then you are ok if they ban abortion.

No one said VA was going to totally ban abortion.

Have you not been paying attention?

The VA GOP has already pushed an abortion ban earlier this year.
https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?231+sum+SB1284

Youngkin has already explained on camera that he will mislead voters about his stance on abortion just to secure votes during an election.

Except this is not a ban you can get an abortion to 20 weeks/5 months into a pregnancy in VA.

"This" is a bunch of BS that Youngkin is pushing to get the votes. He has already explained - on camera! - that he will mislead voters about his stance on abortion just to secure votes during an election.

He has also said he would sign any bill that comes to his desk.

AND earlier this year, the GOP already pushed an actual full abortion ban.
https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?231+sum+SB1284

2023 SESSION
SB 1284 Abortion; prohibited, exceptions, penalty.
Introduced by: T. Travis Hackworth | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Abortion prohibited; exceptions; penalty. Provides that life begins at conception and no abortion is authorized or shall be performed on an unborn child except when (i) a physician determines, in reasonable medical judgment, that a medical emergency exists, defined in the bill such that the abortion is performed to save the life of the mother, or (ii) the probable gestational age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or less and the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest in which an official police report has been filed alleging the offense of rape or incest and such abortion is performed by a licensed physician in a hospital. The bill provides that any person who performs an unlawful abortion is guilty of a Class 4 felony.

Stop pretending like they won't ban abortion if they have the votes.

Yes, this is manufactured to spin people up. This is not an 80s sitcom, people do not get their birth certificate reissued or take expensive medication so they can pee in the stall next to you for nefarious purposes.

If you're worried about assault, let's talk about assault - there's little preventing a cis man from walking into a womens bathroom or locker room today, after all, so if that's a real worry then let's explore that instead of demonizing a tiny group of people who aren't hurting you.

If they cared about women’s sports then why aren’t they pushing for gender equity in sports?

This is not about protecting women for Republicans. It’s about hurting transgender people.

This does concern assaults being committed by cisgender men. Because of self ID, men who are sex offenders can simply say they are women and enter women only spaces. The problem is not with trans women but with men who are able to take advantage of this. Just google stories about convicted male sex offenders claiming they are trans women in order to be housed in women’s prisons. This actually caused a huge controversy in Scotland which contributed to Nicola Sturgeon’s downfall. Also is what prompted Keir Stamer to stand against self ID. These stories exist in the US as well but not covered by the US press. But self ID is dangerous and UK progressives, liberals and leftists have finally woken up to its dangers.

More BS. If Rs were so “concerned” about violence in prison then why aren’t they already addressing the massive amounts of violence that already occurs.

It’s not about protecting women. It’s about hurting transgender people.

I’m not republicans though and neither are the politicians I mentioned in the thread. Self ID is dangerous for women.

No, there is a real threat to women’s rights in VA if the Rs take the Senate. The Ds only have a narrow margin - 2 seats.

I’m still waiting for a “women’s rights” Dem to state what a reasonable gestational limit for legal abortions should be in VA…no one will answer.
You know, because Dems say third trimester abortions aren’t happening and all.
I’m listening because I believe 20 weeks, maybe 15 weeks is reasonable. Other women, even my mom, agree.

+1. The Republicans will coalesce on this point which is where the vast majority of the country is.

No, I don't think the vast majority of the country is in favor of state legislators dictating medical treatment to pregnant women and their doctors when something goes wrong in later pregnancy. I think many people believe those decisions should be made by pregnant women and their doctors.

First of all, I'm a Democrat. Now on to your questions. Males commit 99.5% of all sexual assaults against women regardless of their gender identity. So the answer to your question is irrelevant. All males should be banned from women's spaces. And you're not hearing Republicans complain about normal men assaulting women? You need to get out more. As for sports, Title IX covers amateur sports quite well (unless Biden or someone else changes it to include males as women). As for pro sports, it's a capitalist endeavor so female athletes are paid what they earn. Actually, I take that back. Many are paid more than they earn because they are subsidized by men's sports. Your bemoaning gender equity just men's they aren't taking enough from the men and giving it to the women for your liking. Nine of this is an excuse to allow males to play women's and girls' sports.

I saw the Rs protecting rapists on campus. I saw them elect/nominate abusers.

And there is much more to gender equality in sports than pro sports. How about equity for HS and college sports? Support to actually enforce Title IX?

https://www.si.com/.amp/college/2022/06/22/title-ix-50th-anniversary-billie-jean-king-darren-walker-gender-equity-future
LOL. That article is about BJK growing up 70 years ago and then cited data from 2003. This is a typical woke tactic, pretending things are exactly as they were in the past. But as the the father of daughters, I would support enforcing Title IX more stringently. That includes keeping males out of girls' sports.

You stopped reading too early. The article talks about how we still have a long way to go with women's athletics today.

There are many ways you can actually support your daughters and women’s athletics:
https://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/
No. I read the whole piece. The last part is where it really jumps the shark when they say that banning males from women's sports is discriminateoy to women which is insane.

Oh fun. Are you going to mansplain to BJK about gender equality in sports?
