Other than the words “Shake it off,” Mariah’s song sounds different. But Marvin Gaye’s estate sued because a song had a similar vibe — and won — so it doesn’t take much to claim copyright infringement.

I don’t think Taylor can get there.


Taylor needs to study that song. She crams too many words in and too much frantic fluctuation in her songs. To me her songs kind of induce anxiety instead of the kind of nostalgic smoothness that holds up forever.
