What people don't realize is that the COSA/ Change of Choice is for the following year, not immediately, if the requested school is overcrowded, like Blair. Student assignments are made pretty much a year in advance.

A BOE member advised me to do this when applying for a COSA years ago. Fortunately, we were approved on first try, but I would do this if in your shoes, OP.

Or try calling Blair or central office and say you moved from one cluster and are now in theirs/Blair’s and what should your next steps be to attend the proper school?

I think you’re over complicating this issue.

I have. The people at the consortium choice office (the people in charge of enrollment/transfers/etc) told me that since I'm requesting a change within the DCC, that I would ave to wait until January for the change of choice process. I don't understand why they're making it so complicated, especially because Blair is my home school, but nonetheless I'm just confused what my next steps have to be to ensure she goes there for the next school year.

I think they're right, though. Since she is already enrolled as a student at a DCC high school, there is a once-a-year process for requesting a transfer to another DCC school.

So she’s not guaranteed to go to her home school?

Makes no sense. Typical MCPS which is why they need outside advocate to cut through the MCPS bs.

It makes plenty of sense when there are hundreds of people trying to game the system like OP is.

Seriously? There are hundreds of people who actually moved so their kid can go to their preferred school after a COSA is rejected? I doubt that. Most people are not that persistent.

+1. I have lived in the Einstein cluster for well over 20 years and had a kid go through Blair HS. I have literally heard of no one selling a home in one part of the DCC to buy a home zoned for Blair just so their kids can go to HS there. I'm sure it happens, but I do not think it is common.

Believe me, lots of renters do this this.

Sure, I've known a lot of renters to do this too. We are talking about OP who is not a renter. How many homeowners do you know that have sold a house in Einstein (for example) and then bought a house in Blair's zone to move them to Blair just for high school.

All OP said is that they moved.

Where in the thread does the OP say that she is not a renter?

Be very careful what you wish for. Fighting, bullying, cliches are far worse at Blair. Northwood is a much calmer and sleepier climate and my introverted twice exceptional kid loves it. The Northwood administration is much better and far more responsive than Blair.

If the bullying is specific to a student at Northwood and you have worked with school staff and it’s still not better, I get it. But please don’t think Blair is some oasis because it has a magnet program. It absolutely is not.

And Northwood will be in a new building soon!

....but not by the time OP's child would use it.

How would you compare the teachers at Northwood and Blair?
