I love the the look of the southwest but cannot deal with the insects, spiders & snakes.

About 20 years ago, I was in a KFC in South Troy, and the woman in line directly in front of me cut the cheese. After doing so, she said “Ooh! Keisha a little gassy today!”

Chicago! I love that city. Unfortunately DH refuses to move back there because he is completely against cold weather. It sucks. He’s from Greece and cold weather makes him very sad.

I’ve lived in a lot of places and…hear me out…Virginia is pretty great. Winters aren’t as harsh as my other favorite places (Boulder, Burlington, Maine sea coast). Summers aren’t as brutal as down south. Cultural stuff in this area is easy to access and often free (Smithsonians, street festivals, embassy events) and the park systems are really good.
And this is an odd thing, but the bugs get prehistoric when you go south of here.
So my answers aside from this immediate area: Charlottesville, Boulder (not in winter), Burlington (not in winter).

Seriously considered Ithaca a while back
Doesn't get as much snow as Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse, but I think it's much colder in winter
Couldn't find housing I liked, that ultimately pushed me away
Smallish city in the finger lakes region infused with an international flavor from the university (Cornell). All sorts of people there. Cool combo!
