What they mean is that they want to see applicants who have taken the most rigorous courseloads BUT have also gotten As, which is why the incoming class last year at W&M had a 4.51 at the 75th percentile, a 4.33 at the median and a 4.15 at the bottom 25th percentile of the class. Why is W&M reporting GPAs for 1426 out of 1622 students?
You'll see a similar gap in all the schools--homeschooled students, private schools with narrative grades rather than GPA, international students with a difficult to convert grading system to US GPA, etc. make up a small percentage of the students.

This x1000. It’s like when they say they look at the whole student. It’s more: after making sure your grades and related stats fit our profile, then we look at the rest of the package.
This. Unfortunately, the current system allows AOs to lie through their teeth. They will say anything to get your child to apply so they can reject them and report higher selectivity the next year to USNWR. Until parents understand this they will be suckers. Please READ the stats on SCHEV. Please read the many outstanding books out there. Please hire a private counselor. Please do not believe anything that Dean J or other Deans tell you. Their interest is not in the best interests of your child!
When you read the stats, keep in mind what is NOT reported in those stats. If they don't count everyone, the percentiles are meaningless.

Yeah but you aren't admitted to that directly nor do you indicate that on your app. PP was definitely confusing W&M with a different school.
The program used to be guaranteed, but it is not now. I think Columbia ended the guarantee with all of the schools in that program.
