I don’t get it. What’s your basis for thinking women replying in this thread are old? I’m mid 30s. Most women on DCUM are under 44 if I understand the analytics correctly. Seems more like wishcasting to me.

I was going to echo this exactly. I’m on the younger side (about to turn 30) so am speaking about what I witnessed in my early to mid 20s. PP is right - I’m not saying there are zero exceptions to this rule, but anyone I ever knew of who dated a much older man at that stage either had major daddy/mommy/family issues, or was just an odd bird. Not the type to have many friends, always been a little off, struggles socially.

Older woman here.
I knew a woman who married a man with about the same spring-fall age divide.
When he started to get older and sicker, well into his 60s and beyond, she was PISSED off and angry.
She wasn't crazy about retiring into the boonies 2 hours upstate NY for him. She still has at least a decade of active professional life in front of her.

But he wasn't crazy about having another kid (20 year age difference between his first child from first marriage). I am friends with that first child which is how I can see this panning out.

Lucky OP, he got a young nurse. Unlucky her, she's with an old man.

I've noticed a lot of older women now smile at me, flirt with me, and even ask me out on "not a date" dates. They constantly tell me they want to go out for walks in the park or meals or coffee. It's pretty obvious that they think I'm more attractive because of GF. I'm talking both about women I know pretty well and about women I don't know but meet briefly in public places.

GF is not a bimbo or a sugar baby. She's smart, accomplished and interesting. She's also very attractive. I guess other women assume that I must have something going for me if I can get a woman like GF.

For the first month or so I was with GF, she became angry when I brought up her age. She said I was being condescending when I talked about the age gap. She said she was attracted to me, she knew what she wanted, and I should respect her. She's a serious person. I think this comes across when we are out in public.

Sometimes you just fall in love with someone who is older and you happen to be younger. You realize the person has a lot of great qualities, etc…and over time feelings develop. It happens. Not always a sign something is wrong with 2 people.


I mean maybe but my personal experience is that normal well-adjusted girls only consider dating peers, and for the few women I’ve known over the years to stomach a 10+ year age gap, well, let’s just say there were red flags about them. There are exceptions to scarf rule. I just don’t know any personally for this rule.
