I find it creepy but I also think it’s weird when people talk about “the club” and also think it’s weird when school names start with The.
I’m white but not from a rich eastern town. I find all of these things that are sort of insider baseball for rich people just a little creepy.
But my husband says I’m a huge richist.

Actually quite a few gay people were there. They don't dance with girl girl guy guy but dancing is only part of it.

My kids do cotillion. I did it growing up in the Philly suburbs. My DH did it growing up in the NY suburbs and he is Jewish. All the kids in our towns did it. It’s just a thing UMC white people do.
I don’t understand why just because it’s a tradition for UMC or UC white people, it’s considered inherently bad by some. Aren’t white people allowed to have cultural traditions? Is it really that different from a quinceanera or a cultural tradition within any number of other groups? White people are not devoid of their own cultural traditions and, while they should not considered any better than traditions in other cultures, they should also not be considered somehow necessarily worse.
