Why are morals and values crumbling in our society?

Where is the respect for other people?

Oh I also waited for a ride at metro where the cameras could see me. (Most people jumped the turnstiles, so I guess few pay anymore.) A week later, someone was robbed at knifepoint. That was after a shooting at the other two nearby stations.

At Target, I saw a mother and her little child shoplifting.

Two people were shot dead in my neighborhood. It was “targeted.”

I don’t think I’m out of line to be worried.

I kept my old ugly car in the hopes no one wants to steal it. I don’t get gas at certain stations where carjackings happened. When I have to fill up, I scan the area constantly. And I scan the area beforehand, too.

Too many car jackings at Target so I stopped going. However, I did visit the bank to deposit a check two days after an armed robbery there. I figure the chances are small of being shot at the bank because the bank gives them the money and the robber wants to get away fast.

The armed bank robber who robbed a Bethesda bank was caught so maybe I’ll go there in the future.

Same. I try to avoid the ATM or gas station at night. DH usually runs those errands but I’ve asked him to try to do them in the daytime now. Things feel less safe. And for those of you who think we’re hiding under the covers, refusing to go out, we’re not. We’re just trying to make slight changes to our behavior like getting gas in the daytime if possible.

+1

I actually only really feel unsafe at the gas station. I have been approached by men asking for money multiple times. I felt very vulnerable especially since I say no. I am always on alert that one might get angry.

See I feel gas station is pretty safe because I’m holding a giant weapon in my hand. The gas nozzle.

Obviously historical, but Alex thought it was safe as well.

Is this meant to be some kind of...strange brag? You've witnessed beatings, THREE shootings, and muggings "in front of" you but you also announce you do "everything" at night still. You seem almost to be asking to become a crime statistic yourself. Either that, or you arrogantly think you're magically invincible.

If you're doing your nighttime errands in places where you're witnessing these things, you are doing those errands in places and/or at times that are undeniably stupid.

But so what? How would any of the crime situation get better if people like that PP stopped going out at night?

You really need it explained to you that "the crime situation" is a big-picture thing and that one PP's getting mugged or shot is about an individual possibly ending up dead? If that PP is going places where there are "beatings, shootings, muggings" as PP claims -- then the PP will become another statistic in your "crime situation" soon. Is the PP supposed to keep on going out under those circumstances to...what, exactly? Give the moral middle finger to the criminals? "Look at me, I'm still here, doing my thing like I should be able to!" That does the PP's family no good when they're paying the hospital bills or the funeral costs. Do you not know the term, Pyrrhic victory? Maybe look it up.

But what's it to you if PP feels comfortable doing all that stuff? It is actually still quite unlikely that he or she will become a victim of a crime. Why would you get all angry with PP for doing something that they think is safe, that you think is unsafe, but that has absolutely no bearing on you or anyone you know?
