No private school in the area can even come close to MCPS when it comes to STEM. That's a fact.
MCPS is still the best large school system in the nation.
Data from MCPS shows dramatic drops in elementary school students’ math and English test scores.
Literacy readiness dropped 35% for second graders from the 2018-2019 to 2020-2021 schools years, the data shows. Math readiness for fifth graders was down 25%.
Literacy was down for Black second graders by 38%. Hispanic second graders had a 46% drop.
Actually no. They are surpassing benchmark for literacy and are closing in on the math benchmark. They are catching up on the pandemic loss.

The data said... Math assessments were not aligned to pacing guide instruction.
So, in collaboration with leaders and teachers, we will.. Develop newly aligned assessments using Performance Matters item bank Key Data Systems.
The data said... Students did not learn to the full depth of the standards.

From WTOP, in case one cannot read it from the post. This report has been out since September but never discussed here because it doesn't fit DCUM narrative.

So, is there data showing that scores have improved since September? What is your point?
Academic data presented Thursday to the county’s board of education showed that roughly 72% of students met literacy standards, exceeding Montgomery County Public Schools’ target of 66%.
But for math, 61% of students met the county’s math standards, just short of its goal of 64%.

They need to bring back more structure, text books, teach the basics in terms of spelling, grammar, and math facts and have accountability with both the teachers and students. My kids have read one book this entire school year. Most school years they read two books at best. It's absurd. They do work a lot with writing skills, but that doesn't help kids struggling with the basics.
They need to get rid of all the fluff in the curriculum, the group projects, the constant group discussion and the repeated health education and other classes that teach the same stuff over and over again.
MCPS needs to prepare students to succeed in the 20th century workforce!
If kids cannot read and do basic math, then they aren't prepared for the 20th century. You need to start with the basics first especially in ES. The curriculum is horrible for kids like mine. Thank goodness for the free tutoring.
1923 wants its century back! Guess we are failing in social studies too… (2023 = 21st century)

Wait, but scores across the country dropped that year. You can't say that MCPS is specifically failing and then cite statistics that are at least partially the result of an unprecendented international crisis.
