It's ridiculous to have a destination wedding. Get married in the most convenient place and take your honeymoon to the "destination". Don't make all your guests go on the honeymoon with you. They take vacations to places they select themselves (with their own families). OP, don't go!

I have always given a gift of $200 regardless of whether or not I travel. However, at my local wedding 5 years ago, there were many people who gave gifts of $50 (including people whose weddings I'd attended) and a few who gave no gift at all. Most of these people were lawyers in their 30s. I was miffed at the time but I got over it quickly. Interestingly, the guests who traveled the furthest gave the most generous gifts. If the bride and groom are decent people, they won't hold a lack of a gift against you.

Oh - and guests weren’t just told what colors to wear, there was a theme. Yes, a damned theme destination wedding in the middle of nowhere with expensive travel and hotel costs. It was a nice wedding and the pictures looked great although I don’t think they’re on display since the marriage only lasted three years.

Tolling on the floor laughing at this. When I'm feeling less grumpy about a wedding I have to attend I will see the sadness in a marriage ending so quickly.
