To be honest I own condo in NY. I have no mortgage. Costs me $900 a month to own taxes plus common charges and insurance.
That is only 11k a year. I was in Florida recently and I saw tons of recently retired NY people from Wall Street. Easy to have a 3 million 401k plus old stock grants plus maybe 5 million in stocks and bonds that in retirement throwing off big taxable income tax streams between RMDs etc.
Why give NY 8 percent? Why pay 36k property tax on your large NY house. Why not just buy a one bedroom coop in NYC or small place in Hamptons and a Florida home.
Why give NY 8 percent? My answer would be because you presumably benefited from its robust economy and perhaps its public schools (either directly, or indirectly via being able to hire educated workers to help make you successful). It’s part of the social contract.
On another note, it’s amazing how the older I get the more I see people who, trapped by their greed, choose to live in places they dislike, or wouldn’t prefer, due to taxes. Here it’s FL or TX, in Europe it’s Switzerland or increasingly Belgium. I thought being wealthy would set people free but it’s a trap, in some ways.

I do always vote every election. The deciding issue why I won't vote for DeSantis? He wants to pass permitless open carry of guns. That is a policy that could potentially effect my day to day life.
you know.. I'm an Independent, but I hate this attitude. You rely on other people carrying the tax burdens in blue states but you want to avail yourself of their generous blue state policies because you have the means to go to a blue state if you need to.
Thank goodness there are blue states with their high taxes and reasonable abortion laws, right? While you get to enjoy your low tax state.
DP here. People will do what's best for their individual circumstances, you included. Were you out there advocating schools to reopen Fall of 2020 to serve children? Or did you just go along with it because you had the resources to take care of your own kids? Did you at least volunteer to personally tutor some special needs or poor kids every day? If not, then you're a hypocrite for criticizing pp.

So you are ok with a teen from Southern FL who was raped by their neighbor having to marshall the money and support to travel to probably Maryland to get an abortion. That's ok with you?
Why would they need to leave the state of florida? Abortion is legal up to 15 weeks and 6 days in Florida.
Cuz teens who are raped and teens in general often don’t know what is happening with their bodies or are afraid or ashamed to admit it. Lots of reasons. Would you have a mother of 2 who has a nonviable fetus leave her family to travel to Maryland to have an abortion? You’re not pro life, you are pro you.
Right. But the number of teens who are raped AND get pregnant AND don’t find out until after 15 weeks AND want to abort is incredibly small. This is why most people are more concerned with the economy.
This. I'm adamantly pro-choice, but this economy is really harming my family. Worst case scenario, I could pay to take my kid to somewhere for a late-term abortion on the minuscule chance it's ever needed.

In some way markets are connected even though obviously they are locally driven. If FL has a huge influx of people from affluent high COL NE places, it's because houses there used to sell like hot potatoes making people relocating to FL feel rich, or making feel house rich and wanting to invest into a second home. Once sellers in NE high COL places feel house poor or unable to cash out having to sell their homes, then there will be less $$ going to FL.
I retesting perspective that I hadn’t thought of. Thank you

anatomy scan isn't until 20w.
A very significant amount of exceptions exist in most places in Europe, including for the mother's mental health and wellbeing.
I wonder what legal exceptions exist in Europe - because they aren’t so timely with the anatomy scans, could happen at 22 or 23 weeks. Abortion legal in first trimester. However they sure get the option to terminate if the anatomy scan reveals severe issues. But ging’s don’t get so political and hyped there. IDK.
