Because then people will have to realize that voting for the council and county exec who are allowing this to happen was the wrong thing and they would never admit that.

The county council has nothing to do with this. You sound insane.

DP

Are you saying that local politicians have no influence over crime? I disagree. Crime can increase or decrease as a direct result of public policies that are out in place by our local politicians.

You do truly get what you vote for.

If you look at the data on this it’s largely untrue. Policies matter but in general crime goes up or down because of bigger factors. County councils don’t cause huge policy changes that can affect crime. I do think unofficial police strikes can, but that’s not policy.

Moral in the police is low, and they are having trouble recruiting. That is largely due to council policies of "defund the police", or "police are bad".

Grow up.

Why does the PP need to grow up?

The connection between the council’s attacks on MCPD and MCPD’s low morale has been established. It isn’t immature to point it out.

This thread is about increased crime in the county. Multiple posters are saying that the police department has decreased in size and in function because of the council, so it’ll be harder for MCPD to respond to calls. That’s the natural consequence of the council’s reforms and we now live with it.

I’d propose that it’s time for the council to stop policing and allow the police to do their jobs again, which would also make the county look less attractive to those wishing to commit crimes. Do you have a solution to propose, as well?

Agree with all of this.

I am a lifelong D and 100% agree with everything here..enough of treating our police like crap. Sure, there are some bad, but there are also bad doctors, lawyers, accountants, and you don't see people vilifying all those groups.

Yea because there are never shootings at Unity bridge, are you new here. Do you even know what Lincoln Park is?
umm yes I’m fully aware. But during daylight a father getting shot in front of his son should still shock us.

Yea well you should have always been shocked not act like it’s something new.

You’re just sad it’s creeping closer and closer to people that look like you.

You never gave a rats a$$ before

NP
DC crime hasn’t been shocking to me for decades. That’s the reason I chose NOT to live there. I am however shocked that it is creeping farther and farther out. And you’re right - now I do give a rats a$$. Because I don’t want the DC crime cesspool running rampant where I live. And I make no apologies for that.

There has literally been that type of crime at that exact bridge since the 60’s. This is not DC crime. This is redline crime. This is the result of decades of moco having redline and segregated neighborhoods

Time to put checkpoints in to avoid letting in the criminals

You want to have a checkpoint to keep people from LIncoln Park out of Rockville. Wow! You really want to make america great again.

Well, the car jacking at Rockville Town Center a few weeks ago was at around 11:30am and I barely saw much about it on the news. The high school was on lockdown. But kids from RM go hang have lunch at Town Center often. They caught the DC teens who did it near Rockville Pike/Gude Drive later.

I guess it is the new normal.

The teens carjacking is an epidemic. I think it’s because teens want a car, and they’re hard to steal now. They want a car with a key, and that means carjacking someone. It’s so dumb and they have no plan except to ride around and then ditch the car. They’re too stupid to realize how easy it is for someone to get killed. We need the car companies to come up with technologies to prevent this ASAP. There needs to be a fast way to disable and recover the car. Possibly also we need dash cams, although I was on a carjacking jury where the stupid kids took their own pictures of themselves in the stolen car, then posted them to social media. So the level of idiocy is extremely high.

I think it’s darker than that … teens carjack cars as part of an organized crime ring, so the car can be sold or used in a crime. sometimes joyriding, but my money is on organized crime for teens coming from DC to carjack in Rockville.

Correct. Stupid kids joyriding is rare. Most crimes have a financial incentive.
And I agree that criminal activity in Montgomery County is influenced by the complete mess that is DC right now. This is why we need federal gun control.

The recent carjacking at Rockville Town Center was done using a BB gun. Do you think having federal BB gun control will alleviate crime?

and the perps were from DC. I have to wonder just how much of these crimes are committed by people from outside of MoCo.

From what I can tell, most of the violent crime is committed by people who either live in another jurisdiction, particularly PG County or DC, or people who have recently moved to Montgomery County. Violent crimes committed by long-time residents, regardless of race, seems extremely rare.

I mean if rape is not considered a violent crime sure.

No there is not a connection. There is a connection to cops being video taped and held accountable and the ridiculously racist Blue Live Matter trope that has infiltrated all cops around the country.

Crime has increased due to poverty and a pandemic nationwide.

Obviously getting rid of racist and ignorant cops will bring more cops, if you don't have to worry about going to jail because your buddy put his knee on a citizen's neck and killed him while you stood there complicit, that would be a great start. Cops are afraid of cops and video tapes not the council.

Please explain your accusation that ‘Blue Lives Matter’ is racist.

Are all police officers from one race in Montgomery County?

Why not do your own research about "thin blue line" and "blue lives matter".

I am all for back the blue because it does not have racist ties.

I really don't think you are intelligent enough to comprehend the many facets that go into what is affecting crime and the underpinnings of the racism in our police system. It's really not something you can learn from a thread on the internet. Do better, educate yourself. Actually, how do you not know this? Are you living under a rock?

Google is your friend, read books on the history of the police force, how laws are created... color of money, the 13th... take a criminal justice class.
