Things you probably also are not aware of: If you speak Russian in public, they will tie you to a pole and abuse you. Opposition parties are banned in the Ukraine. Opposition media is banned in the Ukraine. Ukraine maintains a "kill list." Dugin and his daughter were on that list. Elon Musk was briefly on that list.
Why on earth would any ethnic Russian want anything to do with those psychos?
While there was a strong push to displace the Russian language from the official sphere, what you wrote is not true. A huge chunk of Ukraine speaks Russian in their daily lives, was born with it, and in fact prefers it to Ukrainian. It just isn't possible to excise a language that every other citizen of your country considers a mother tongue. They'd run out of poles on day 1.

You might also want to look into what happens when Ukraine takes back some territory.
The photos are terrible, and while they may cast a new light on the nature of the regime, nothing in these photos indicates they are punished for speaking Russian.
You missed the part about the faces painted green then. Russian speakers get their faces painted green. Green like an "Ork." You have to read between the lines in the news article because they won't spell out to you what is happening so explicitly. One of the captions reveals that many of the people taped have had their now blurred faces painted green. If you were to visit Ukrainian sources, they are not as shy about what they are doing.

I'm not comparing Putin to Saddam. I'm comparing a falsehood-inspired hysteria against Saddam and the terrible consequences it visited upon Iraq to the current discourse about Putin.
But you probably think the war in Iraq is a forgivable indiscretion because it's not like the bomb came down on your own house. Half a million dead brown people, meh, who cares. Let's weep for the blue-eyed instead.

Thanks for the Putin agitprop. It’s as if Russia didn’t invade and attempt to subjugate a neighboring country to seize its energy reserves, agricultural resources and industries in 2014 and again in 2022. It used a missile to blow a commercial airliner out of the sky killing 298 people. The history of mass executions m, torture, rape and other atrocities of Russians in Ukraine is just starting to be written. Spare us the sanctimonious pearl clutching. The world will be a better place with Putin hanging from the gallows.
They said this about Saddam once, and brought glass tubes to shake at people for dramatic effect, and then whooops before you know it, half a million Iraqis are pushing up grass. Remarkable, innit.

Breaking news: Ukrainians don’t like looters, saboteurs and people who support invaders who engage in war crimes and genocide.
Yes the war looks so comfortingly black and white from your comfy kitchen in Chevy Chase.
