This is true, but a 3.3, 1220 kid is the type of kid who would do great at Pitt and would have been a shoo-in 10 years ago.

Test optimal but I think 1220 while low seems in line with a 3.3.

I would imagine they probably can predict how many applications they will get above a certain cutoff (say 3.5 GPA) so they can be okay with denying all of those below that point.
