Their terms are staggered, it's not set up to allow sweeping change.

The quickest thing to do is to protect yourself and family by relocating. After 30+ years, that is our plan. NoVA is not as safe as it once was, but MoCo is putting many "reforms" in place that are similar to the way DC handles juvenile crime, seems more risky.

This. It’s not improving anytime soon. There’s a large class of brazen underclass people who are mostly men and will continue to terrorize the city. Eventually living so close to these people has consequences. You used to be able to hide in NW, but now you can’t.

It was very obvious during the 2020 protests that DC did not have a good future ahead. The city government has shown time and time again it does not value education and safety. This is very obvious.

You cannot outrun the wave of crime that is happening from the pandemic, services and other businesses, employment, schools and all such were affected.

While it's unfortunate that carjackings have risen, this is likely making up for the time there were not any during the pandemic. I have faith things will eventually course correct.

Things were closed for 2 years, and some places 2.5 years.

This has been disproven so many times. Crime spiked after 2020 everywhere then started going back down. Except in DC. We have our own unique problems to figure out, and trying to excuse it does nobody any favors.

+100000 DC is now an outlier. If you think it’s not then you’re either delusional or ignorant.

This tired and mistaken gaslighting all over again. This is demonstrably not true. Please become a better informed person.

It's time to move. I don't see this getting better for a very long time. It'll get worse first.

It was mostly an overreaction after the death of George Floyd. Reforming and retraining police departments morphed into going easy on urban criminals in the name of “equity.” Crime spiked although it recently has been going down nationally. DC is the exception, and the brazenness and spread of crime to formerly safe neighborhoods suggest that local criminals believe that they will not be caught or held accountable. DC needs an urgent course correction.

And if you move to NoVa don’t get complacent. It’s right behind the other two but has the advantage of the rest of the state keeping it in check.

I live in MoCo and we need the same thing here. I have to think that only 10 or 15% of people are woke and insane. How are these people winning all the primaries? I don't want Republicans to win but why can't we have normal, sane Democrats in office?

The loud extremists aren’t the majority but they’ve managed to bulldoze their way into control of the party in this area. Same thing happened with republicans in much of the country. They’re loud and they are determined. More centrists need to stop being apathetic and start voting.

Woman robbed on Saturday at Bank of America ATM on Connecticut Ave in Cleveland Park. There were lots of people around, so many that the robber disappeared into the crowd. Criminals are so brazen now, operating with impunity in broad daylight in formerly safe Washington neighbourhoods. Why can’t the DC government even try to get things under control?

No, DC will not go back to enforcing laws in the district anytime soon.

You deserve the leadership you voted for.

100%. DC very shortly. will turn into Baltimore or San Francisco. Why. would anyone expect any different outcome from the city ran by democrats?

Let me guess: you're in your 20's?

Or to put it in terms his generation understands: tell me you're in your 20's without telling me you're in your 20's.

I'm a different poster. I'm 45, and moved to DC in 2002. yes, it feels decidedly LESS safe today than it did in 2012 when my youngest was born. Why is it hard to comprehend that? Some of us live in areas that have always had a crime problem, but we've seen it get worse with our very eyes -- carjackings outside our front door, mom and child shot by ATV rider, the little girl who was killed outside Nats Park during a game, etc. nyc also feels less safe than when I graduated from college there in the late 90s.

You’re brilliant because most 45 year olds were in high school in the late 90s

Eh, I’m 43 and graduated college in 2001. Did summer school and graduated in 3 years.
