But it has always been difficult to suggest the thing that Black parents in DC disproportionately preferred (school closures), with their disparate impacts for Black kids, and minimal effectiveness at reducing transmissions, were racist.
It’s not hard to argue that it’s racist at all. The supposed uniform opinion was never supported, and now we have objective facts on the disparate impact. Someone should file a complaint with the federal office of civil rights but they won’t b/c left advocacy groups have been absolutely and shamefully hypocritical on schools, race, and covid.

To clarify, the reason we are talking about the issues with the CDC quarantines is that they led to a desperate need for a virtual option (not closing schools or forcing healthy people to only learn virtually). That was a non starter for Bowser and DCPS and here we are now with our students farthest from opportunity being quarantined the most.
I do agree with your sidenote how frustrating vax rates have been. It's hard to send home the same 5 - 10 kids every time there is a case and wonder why their parents don't just get them vaccinated.
You're acting like virtual is a great substitute for in-person school, and completely ignoring the educational and emotional harms of it. Not to mention the impacts on parents' ability to retain jobs (and therefore support their children).
Forced virtual -- CLOSING SCHOOLS -- should have been a non-starter in Fall 2021, but here we are in 2022 and you're still arguing it should have been done. You can't be this obtuse.
Am I? I thought it was pretty clear that I think virtual should be a last resort for students in quarantine. DCPS took away any ability to do that, and that is my issue. Nothing more.

DP/parent here. Creating packets for one or two kids is different than large scale teaching both in-person and remote at the same time. If Bowser had put money towards staffing up for the challenge then that might have worked well, but nope.
Even something creative, like assistant teachers to help the main teachers manage logistics. I don't even know what Bowser did with the extra COVID money? Glossy flyers tooting her own horn?

It's laughable that someone is trying to argue that the UNION would have supported doing something LESS covid-cautious than CDC policy.
To clarify, the reason we are talking about the issues with the CDC quarantines is that they led to a desperate need for a virtual option (not closing schools or forcing healthy people to only learn virtually). That was a non starter for Bowser and DCPS and here we are now with our students farthest from opportunity being quarantined the most.
I do agree with your sidenote how frustrating vax rates have been. It's hard to send home the same 5 - 10 kids every time there is a case and wonder why their parents don't just get them vaccinated.
You're acting like virtual is a great substitute for in-person school, and completely ignoring the educational and emotional harms of it. Not to mention the impacts on parents' ability to retain jobs (and therefore support their children).
Forced virtual -- CLOSING SCHOOLS -- should have been a non-starter in Fall 2021, but here we are in 2022 and you're still arguing it should have been done. You can't be this obtuse.

I think at this point Bowser needs to be accountable for the quarantine policy. But yeah I have no illusions that White would do better.
You're going to need to clarify what you mean by "quarantine policy", then. DCPS is just following CDC guidelines. It's patently absurd to propose that Bowser controls CDC guidance.
