Should she knock out PE in the summer or keep it for an easier class? If the former, what do people usually take in its place freshman year? Some other mandatory class for a future year or something fun? We know no one there.
Students have 2 electives. it's usually language and PE. Finishing PE in the summer will help free up an elective and she can take Band. She can continue with both for 4 years.

When I went to TJ there was quite a bit of diversity in terms of sexual orientation, but no pressure for odd-ball nerds to label themselves on according to gender stereotypes, and I wonder if that's changed.

Now some of the kids cared about school bc their parents were raging nut jobs about grades and some kids cared about school bc they were really interested in learning and a million other reasons in between but pretty much every kid at TJ wanted to be in school. I have a kid at a base HS, and while he's having a great experience and I'm happy he's there, the environment is different regarding taking school seriously (and yes there are kids at base who are very serious scholars -its just not the whole school). I'm not sure what this all means in terms of admissions or how you measure for it, but it really does exist.

It works if they do club swim in the mornings (mine did 4:30-6:30). If they love swim and band, it will be very doable, and help them to stay happy, healthy, and able to manage their workload better.
Did your child sleep? Don't get me wrong I love the idea of doing swim before school but between homework and sleep I think it would be hard.
Yes, at 9p, but swim was only 4 mornings, so he slept in 3 days out of the week. He has a lot of self discipline, but he's not the only one. There are a lot of kids who do this. If they love it, they can do it. It really instills great time management skills.
It also takes parent discipline and sacrifice wrt picking up from band practice and having dinner ready so they can eat in the car on swim nights. It was honestly kind of tough for me, but his strength gave me strength. Plus it's really only for a couple of years because eventually they drive themselves home. My advice is to savor every minute of those long car rides home.
