If I was voting in Ward 3 though, I’d probably be voting for the lady from Palisades. It’s important that all constituencies in the city have appropriate representation.
So vote for the lady who chose to live in the most isolated, transit poor, no affordable housing island in the city?
LOL, no thanks.
It’s a big city with different geographies and sub-populations. Not all areas of DC are and need to be identical. However, to have a well functioning democratic system all constituencies should be well represented. Not all council members should be clones if each other. Group think is really bad for ensuring good policy outcomes no matter what the topic.
And voting for the people who chose to live on an island is a bad call, in my opinion. They are welcome to live in their sub-population, insulated area. They don't need to try to represent me or my interests.

Palisades has lots of affordable housing on MacArthur Boulevard. And depending on how broadly you define Palisades, there are a bunch of apartment complexes around Ward Circle.

Or is it politically suicidal to say that mentally ill, formerly homeless people being moved into apartment buildings on Connecticut Ave are ruining the quality of life for the others who live there, many of whom are elderly and have lived in those buildings for decades. We're talking drug use, drug dealing and defecation in the hallways, domestic violence, and fire alarms that force elders to make their way out of the building with their walkers in the middle of the night. I know some of those elders, and they are terrified but can't afford to move. I'm tempted to vote for the person who wants to tackle that problem, regardless of whether or not they have mastered the Wokespeak. Sorry.
