I loved the story of Song of Achilles. I had a hard time with the writing style. Because of this, it was an interesting case where I didn’t enjoy it so much as I read it, but the further I was from finishing it the more the story fascinated me. And continues to. It was the book that catapulted me into reading a ton of LGBTQ+ novels.

DD loved Song of Achilles, and didn’t expect to love it. I’ve been meaning to get to it too.

The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny. Light and frothy stuff, but well written.

Not That Complicated, by Isabel Murray.

It’s a romcom. Funnier and more heartfelt than I expected. There’s a mystery, but it’s kind of adjacent to the relationship.

“If this was your classic Cotswolds murder mystery (it’s not) and Ray was an amateur detective (he isn’t) then when he stumbles across something unexpected under his bedroom floor, he’d investigate the hell out of it.

Hard pass.

I am reading one of the Amazon first picks that Kindle users get for free. I don't even know the title but it's about a woman who gets wrangled into being a bridesmaid in five weddings in one year and decides to write an anonymous blog about it. It's nothing to write home about but I am enjoying it. It's set in DC. I've been laid up with COVID and now with a sinus infection, so this is what I have the attention span for - and for that it's perfect.

I'm the PP who posted about Pachinko several months back. I'm now reading Jami Attenberg's The Middlesteins. I really liked her recent All This Could Be Yours--a type of book I don't usually go for (novel about an extremely dysfunctional family). But I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, and I really like her writing style, so I thought to try another one of her books.
