I would tend to agree MIT may be one of the few places to consider over a full ride at MD, but I'd look at the specifics of each program first. MIT is incredibly prestigious, but its CS program is in engineering and may have a lot of unrelated requirements. UMD is also a top program with flexible course selection that may allow one to pursue their interests better. Also, may be easier to get research opportunities as an undergrad at MD which may be more helpful for grad school.

I would do MIT if your kid wants to work in CS. He is probably less likely to need grad school coming from MIT. If you kid wanted to be a doctor, I'd recommend UMD.

My dc turned down Cornell for UMD B-K. I say take the free option for undergrad and save the money for grad school.

I have no problem with UMD but I think most people would give their left arm to go to MIT. If you have the money give your child this amazing opportunity.
