Yes and no on team results. While it is true that even players on losing ECNL teams will have chances to be seen by college scouts, it also helps to be on a winning team because winning teams play more games in front of more scouts as the team advances in playoffs, etc., and branding matters when it comes to college recruiting. If the club is a well known "brand", has a track record of producing college players, coaches have strong relationships with certain colleges, then that will certainly help the players on those teams, and winning helps to build the club brand. Of course, if a player is really good enough, it doesn't matter if their ECNL team is at the bottom of the table, they will still get noticed. But all things being equal it is better to be a player on a winning team. A better metric for evaluating ECNL teams is probably to look at how many college commits they get vs how many wins.

Will the VYS partnership be able to rescue BRYC from this past year's results?

U15: 1-11-1 10 goals for, 44 against (high school ages only play the fall season)
U16: 3-8-2 15 goals for, 25 against
U17: 0-9-4 9 goals for, 32 against
U18/19: 3-8-2 14 goals for, 39 against

Totals (6 age groups)
8-86-10
65 goals for, 384 against (differential of -319)


Sooo... will resetting the teams and adding ECNL-R players from VYS help for next year?

I'm on the boys side. If you were talking to a rising U18 that's probably true. They were probably the group that feared the merger the most and probably had the most to lose if new coaches came in. They also hadn't won a game all season and probably feared keeping their team intact. I'd say the rest of the ECNL ages are probably about 40% NVU 40% BRAVE 20% Going elsewhere. It was all a front row seat to adults behaving badly on both sides. Only losers were the boys and both clubs will probably field weaker teams in the process. I hope all boys land well and it works out on both sides, but honestly I'm not sure most kids either way won't be looking elsewhere next year.

It's amazing that this team can't win a single game. The roster has lots of individual talent, including to National level ODP players, but they can't put it together as a team. This is on the coaches! Anyone thinking of following these coaches, needs to reevaluate.

Players that are interested in playing in college will go to BRAVE or try to catch on with another ECNL or MLS Next team. They are not going to get recruited out of CCL.

Change is hard. With all due respect to the player and other players, if new talent is better than old talent then of course it might mean the new talent make the ECNL teams. What's telling to me is that player didn't say those kids are going to try out or move to other ECNL level teams. They all have the option of still remaining with BRYC and playing in ECNL-RL. If NVU is really going to be going to try and become a member of CCL, that is a massive step down for any players that are good enough to play ECNL. Will CCL in its newly gutted form be better than ECNL-RL (which is the alternative for anyone that doesn't make BRAVE but remains with BRYC)?

I can only offer an observation. Drove by tryouts for boys last week on the way home. There were plenty of boys out there. I had heard the Welshes were let go, but not sure. Because in the end, it is YOUTH soccer. What's best for them?

Glad to hear that. I didnt mean to bring the focus on some issue between the clubs more just if it impacted the tryouts and overall attendance. I guess we will check out the tryouts for both clubs and see how it goes.

I can't add anything about the conflict you reference, but you're correct that the only ECNL teams will be the joint BRAVE effort, or choose another club from VDA, Mclean, Arlington, Bethesda, or Loudoun for ECNL. Boys would have additional options for MLS Next with SYC and Alexandria, while girls could also choose GA teams in FC Virginia or Metro. NVU has no affiliation with any of those.

We have been looking at new clubs this season. I heard some conflict between BRYC/FX Brave that caused Welsh to break out teams to NVU. Not sure whats going on since I heard 3rd party but nonetheless I was curious how was the FX Brave tryout turn out in general? Sounds as if for those teams/players that want to remain in ECNL would have to go with Brave right?
