If that is truly the case, then why aren't you out campaigning to close everything else in America. No one got Covid over the past 14 days from going to school - they travelled and went to restaurants and movie theaters and sports arenas. Close all that down and keep the schools open.

This! Why is MCPS counting more than 14 days when it said 14 days?
+1 MCPS has already been closed for two weeks. The numbers are not spread in schools. Cases reported before winter break would be cleared to return from quarantine.
Another 14 days is a MONTH out of the school building. MCPS is a rats nest mess. Just more trickery to deny children in person instruction.

No you don't. Community school = school spread. Omicron is 10 times more transmissible than Delta. It's not up for debate that Omicron spreads in schools, particularly during the elbow-to-elbow unmasked lunch.

Wow. Our high school dropped by 42 cases. There’s 0 staff out with COVID according to the new report. We should now be in the green.
Those are just the cases reported today, not the cumulative cases. There’s a separate document with the total cases since winter break started.
Yes, it's interesting to have the two sets of data.
WTH - 4pm 35 cases. 7pm 137 cases - red. Total Whiplash.
How long till MCPS take vaccinated students and staff off their lists? At what point is the entire school system essentially online? How will Special Education students who could not receive accommodations and services during the last 18 months of online learning going to receive accommodations and services now?
This is a nightmare.
My SN child, and all the other SN children I know, received services and accommodations. I have no complaints.
Don't use special needs as your pitchfork.

That is a lot of red.
So, what are they going to do?
Has anyone heard from a school that was open today that will be closed tomorrow? This is insane.

DP, but Omicron spread in absolute terms is not the issue. The issue is whether the consequences of Omicron spread *specific to schools* outweighs the (massive) negative consequences of virtual learning to kids.
I mean, if you think COVID is bad for kids, wait until you see the effects of chronic stress. I wish I were kidding, but as a licensed mental health professional with expertise in clinical neuroscience, I’m more than a little terrified. Just because you don’t see it now doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.
No, you don't either. My husband is a doctor, and he sees the hospital saturation, WHICH KILLS PEOPLE, through poor standard of care. MD hospitals are now immune from lawsuits because of the emergency order. You can die of your car accident or heart attack, PP, without any kind of compensation, because Covid patients are clogging up the hospitals because you were concerned about anxiety and depression and didn't want to close schools. Saving lives is more important than anything else.

If your husband really is a physician, he should read the literature that indicates covid does not contribute to community spread, and you should not spreading misinformation that is harming children especially those with less means than you.
