Bo Amati is the soccer coach for Langley HS so I assume he is knowledgeable enough to evaluate which players can make the team, right?

My personal theory is that it stems from our youth when there weren't as many travel teams and HS was *the thing* to accomplish. Also when high schools were much smaller. Our local FCPS has 1000 more kids than when we grew up in this area. There is much more competition to make certain HS teams because there are so many more kids in some schools but also, it is less important than back in the day when travel teams didn't play year round and there weren't as many of them. No college coaches care about HS teams, but parents are not always aware of this. People also make a lot of valid points on this thread that while travel teams also make mistakes, HS coaches are generally a much lower level of pay/experience at coaching than travel coaches.



Good point - There was always a higher sense of belonging and school pride back in the old days (early 90's We didn't have the opportunities available now. Heck, DS had the opportunity a couple years ago to play in Spain and even Latvia! I could barely find Spain on a map when I was a kid and Latvia was just emerging from behind the Iron Curtain.

IF DS had decided to continue soccer he was on a good trajectory for D2/D3 and Semi-Pro opportunities. Good academic opportunities and a real serious GF changed his plans, LOL.

Many here are overthinking things. It is not hard to learn possession at 15. Kids are still young and more attentive than when they were little. If they can learn physics and calculus they can learn something as simple as possession soccer.

Also, parents care if their kids make HS teams if their kids really want to make the HS team. I.e. parents want their kids to be happy. Not a hard concept to grasp.
