For what it’s worth I am dairy free and gluten-free and I just bought piles of food I can’t eat because that’s what my guests want. They didn’t ask for it… But they did suggest we have brunch together. I love them and I’m hosting and I picked things out that I knew would be tasty for them. And I’m not all grudgy about it. And it’s not a lifestyle choice for me, I get really really sick if I eat the stuff. I’ll be wearing gloves to plate some things.

How about the last-minute guests bring their own veganized dishes at this late date?

So do you not want guests? It’s hard to tell. Very hostile.

2 parents, 1 MIL, and 4 kids, including life threatening food allergies, and lots of pickiness. And I don't feel like I can say "you get what you get" when at least 5 of those people had no say in it at all.

If it helps Indian restaurants often can do a beautiful vegan curry. Maybe have him call around and get some takeout? Offer for the main meal. She can figure out the rest later. They probably need to do a grocery run.

Thai as well. Panang tofu is delicious.

Nope. I lived in thailand. Everything has fish sauce.

In Thailand. They dumb it down for us. I would ask if someone had an allergy just in case…

Ask her to bring some food.

What are the chances he even stays with her if she's just a gf and she's this picky/annoying?

I wouldn't worry about her.

Oh no. Start a new thread. People on this forum are brilliant with suggestions. I think some of them get a rush. This should be a new cooking show challenge on Food TV.

No, we are actually fine, because I kinda suspected she might do this, so I have stuff I can pull out of the freezer, and I didn’t put allergens in anything.

I just had to laugh when it happened and think “hey I can commiserate with the lady on the vegan thread!

Most of the vegans I know are super used to bringing their own food. Since you said you have mushrooms, you could sauté them in olive oil, garlic and thyme for a savory dish for her. (The rest of you can use it to top your steaks, haha.) But, I feel like chances are she will show up with a vegan dish.

Anonymous wrote:"vegan butter" is margarine. It's what we had all the time in the 80s when people thought it was healthier (and because it was cheaper). Big ol tub of country crock.

I just have to jump in and say that a lot of margarine has some milk in it. Which you may or may not care about if you're serving vegans, but is critical to be aware of if you're serving people who have dairy allergies.

Also, if you're going to sub for stick butter in something that's cooked, you want to use something with the same consistency, not something in a tub that's soft for spreading.
