She’s right. She’s also rude to point this out.

I love this. Actually made me laugh out loud. I’m picturing OP’s MIL as Lucille Bluth.

I was away for a few days and came back to this gem of a thread. Thank you OP and DCUM, I am always here for the laughs.

-off to display some attempts my kids made

I buy ritz type crackers (usually an organic variation) for my kid and I don’t particularly like them but I would not think twice if I saw them set out at someone’s house. I wouldn’t have associated a type of cracker with class. All kinds of people like all kinds of different foods.

Hahaha she’s honestly embarrassed for you, that’s amazing.

As somebody who grew up poor I can tell you that people who have very little money can’t always afford Ritz. It was store brand saltines for us. But now that I am UMC I buy Kellogg’s town house pita crackers, Mediterranean flavor. This is as fancy as i get in the cracker arena.

Except actually Trader Joe’s Gorgonzola crackers are so good, and maybe those are fancier. Can’t really serve those with dips though.

I am now schooled, but can I get around this rule by buying the organic buttery rounds from Whole Foods? Can I serve these instead without judgement? I have fancy friends.

I really miss Carrs Wheatmeal Biscuits. They were sort of like eating graham cracker flavored sand.

Those water crackers poke me insight my mouth. They're sort of a crispier version of hardtack.

I was miffed when I first met her and early on in the marriage until I learned the truth. Now, I just flow with it. She can be good entertainment and I know how to hold my boundaries with her, so that's key.

In the scheme of things, cracker shaming wasn't that big of a deal. It was just SO very DCUM.

Other gems from the weekend were:

[my sister & SIL were both wearing similar striped shirts] You gals are so adventurous with your fashion. I never would have worn something like that at your age, but with age comes wisdom.

[on my 10 yo pumpkin carving] I agree that you should let kids attempt things, but not all their attempts need to be displayed.

Did your housecleaner come this week? I could tell! There's always a certain fresh clean smell after she's been here. So lovely. (I guess my house smells other times?)

This gem better become family lore and repeated at all sorts of random times, maybe embroidered (by your child!) on a throw pillow?:
