My impression -- SJC is like a really nice public school. Nothing unique or special about it except the shiny new facilities.

Being good in sports pulls in more athletes. We are looking at SJC but pretty bummed that our kids won’t be playing their current sports. But, we won’t select a school based on sports.

Are their sports still soaring off that Under Armour gift in 2015 or are there more recent gifts propelling athletics?

If your kid is a good athlete but not Division I material, then---depending upon the sport---may want to look for a school with less competitive programs.

my god. Your kid’s acceptance letter (allegedly out of 1350 applicants) does nothing to prove a 25% acceptance rate. Please ask your child to explain this to you. And stop repeating this on every thread.

Are their sports team almost too good? Just from perusing the high school sports section of the Post, it seems SJC wins nearly everything. Are they weak in any sports?

Also makes me wonder what happens to kids who get cut. That would be quite a bummer to be a pretty good athlete but because the team is full of so many college recruits you're cut or ride the bench.

There is nothing Catholic about Gonzaga- Not allowing SJC to march on the field with the cadets as they have done for generations, forcing opposing fans into porta potties(only a few for 1000 fans,) and... Gonzaga is the antithesis of Catholic.

So far, our non-sporty non-Scholars freshman is happy with their honors classes and having a good time. We can check back in this spring. YMMV.

That’s not the acceptance rate. That’s how many enroll. Most kids apply to several schools so there is a fair number of kids accepted who go elsewhere.
