Another conservative here, and thank you for this. Just FYI, the term for "contemporary liberalism" is "leftist" or "progressive." Many normal Democrats (read: traditional liberals) run from these terms, because they are secretly horrified that this is what their party has become. Dennis Prager has great videos on this very topic and why it's important that we keep calling them out for what they really are: Leftists.

I can tell you for a fact that I and my conservative friends are far happier than people we know who do not share our values, particularly other women. For one thing, we're not angry with the world. As religious people, we know that we are not of this world and that perfection will never be found here, nor is it intended to be. It's not that we "don't care" about the plight of our fellow citizens - on the contrary, Republicans and religious/ conservative people give far more in time, money and other resources to help others. We just know that ultimately, God is in control. And that's a great thing.

This is yet another reason that conservatives, in general, are much happier than progressives. Yeah…I am liberal. I don’t talk politics with acquaintances. I do with friends. And I do notice when someone is very quiet in a group conversation. Or I saw a friend on 1/7. She and her husband work in DC. But she didn’t mention a thing about the craziness. I believe both these people are republicans ok with Trump and social media activity has confirmed this.

That’s fine with me, our kids can be friends, and I will be friendly. But I will not be close friends or fully trust the judgment of anyone ok with Trump and his cronies. They will not be part of my inner circle. They view these policy differences as just differences in opinion, but it’s much bigger to me.
