The US never opposed invasions in principle. It’s a lie for you to say that they did.
The US and almost the entire world has indeed been against, on principle, wars of territorial expansion. Territorial integrity is one of the key foundational principles of the UN and the post-WW2 international order.

This is an interesting take, but since Ukrainians are supported by the West, wouldn’t it help them survive? Also Russia is either too weak or doesn’t really want to invade the whole country, I can’t quite tell.
I think they would happily settle for the Black Sea regions and Donbas and leave the rest of Ukraine alone.
The rest of Ukraine would then take frequent raids on the Russians, and it would look just like Israel vs Palestine.
DP: If there was an artificial ceasefire imposed today then that scenario sounds plausible. Although it also depends upon which part of the cycle we are currently on. Is it '48, '56, or '67?
I can also see the Palestinian example though. It depends on which part of the Conflict one is focused on. But from a defensive military perspective that's a good parallel except the raids will be mutual.
It seems pretty clear that Russia's maxed out it's attacking power and needs to resupply. The only question is whether Ukraine was similarly degraded.
Point about mutual raids taken.
Sanctions will be kept and they will slowly but surely weaken the Russian economy.
I feel bad for the people who live in the line of the upcoming counteroffensive.

The suspense is killing me. Which door is Russia going to choose? Are they going to relieve Wagner and reinforce Bakhmut from the surrounding front lines, let it go, or force Wagner to die? Can they let it go and still keep up the annexation farce? Will they get encircled? Where is the main attack coming from? Is Ukraine bluffing?
So many questions and so many variables. No wonder Pirozghin wants out. His prisoner meat force is spent. None of those options look good. What gets sacrificied?

Because it’s the right thing to do and we stand with our WW2 allies and show that we can still be a bastion of hope. The cost benefit analysis of it all basically pans out in America’s favor. The funny thing is that as recently as thirty years ago, anyone from the former USSR space was a "Russian" in America. I remember it took special pains to explain to people that there were such things as Armenians, Tajiks, Ukrainians, Uzbeks etc. I mean people nodded and all, but you could see it was all casse-tete chinoise to them.
Very funny to remember that in the context of the current chest-beating of "they are Ukrainians! not Russians!" , as if anyone in America could tell them apart.
