Who in their right mind is going to opt their kids into a school that you dont know if you are in the boundary for (so no friends) and potentially no transportation. And what the hell are the little school diagrams supposed to be showing? This is beyond awful.
I could see two groups opting in: 1) those currently zoned for Westfield or South Lakes (or highly likely to be moved to one of those) who want to avoid it no matter what; 2) those who are in boundary for Western HS in all four maps that have been shown so far.

So, kids "opt in" before they know if they will be "in boundary" and won't know for sure if transportation will be provided?
Who made this timeline for the Western school? It defies logical thinking.

Where have they publicly advocated for this? Last I heard they were advocating for Option B of the four maps. I didn't hear anyone at a meeting say KAA should be a magnet. Are they lobbying school board members behind closed doors or something?
On their own website:
https://rootedinoakton.com/ourposition
I just clicked on that link and under “our position” it says option b.
Don’t mislead people. It also says:
“Equity and Choice: A magnet model would make Western's specialized "school-within-a-school" programs available to all FCPS students, aligning directly with district equity goals without redrawing boundaries.”
Oh look. This section of their website mysteriously disappeared. I guess the Crossfield parents running the rooted in Oakton group realized they made a strategic mistake in calling for a magnet and decided to change course.
They read this site and talk about it. There is someone posting "Crossfield people should do this...." and the Rooted in Oakton people are basically taking that messaging and turning it around into their own, so they should be thanking that person.
They are now pivoting to Option B.

So the athletes are penalized and have to opt out away from all their friends because of fcps piss poor planning.
But I thought these kids had prepared for years to attend this high school, and their actual community is kids at a completely different set of elementary schools (ahem rooted in Oakton) If the sport is so important shouldn’t they want to attend the base school regardless?
Someone tried to tell me that Waples Mills and Oakton ES kids play CYA sports. Like, no they don't. I have never, in the past 12 years, had a single Waples Mill or Oakton ES kid on my child's CYA sports teams.
We have had Waples Mill kids but not Oakton ES. Most kids are Oak Hill, Lees Corner, Brookfield, Greenbriar, Navy, and Crossfield.
I meant to add that I think this whole argument stems from the fact that some of the main pro Oakton people put their kids on travel sports teams that practice near or at Oakton. So if I sign my kid up for Great Falls Reston soccer, that means they should get to play for Langley I guess?
