They are relatively new money. They are gaudy, lack any real substance or charisma. They are on the same level as the Kardashians.
It's not an excuse. You can be new money and have impeccable taste -- socialites have used great taste to get in with the old guard for generations. But it takes a very practiced eye and an a lot of restraint. Nancy Reagan was actually pretty successful at this. She found a way to fit right in with the old money Republican women even though she was a child actress from NYC who had spent years in Hollywood. She understood how to make that look authentic for her. After all, it's just costuming.
I'm not saying you have to do this -- I don't actually care if politicians or their families are "old money." I like it when people do their own thing. Michelle Obama never tried to look like old money. Neither did Betty Ford or Rosalynn Carter. They were just themselves and it worked for them. But Trump's family, but especially Ivanka, seems to desperately want to emulate that old money look and it always looks so fake and bad to me. I think she must have very low self esteem and not really know how to simply be herself. She takes after her dad in that way -- they are both always trying to play a role and not very well. Yet they fail up. I don't know.

She looked beautiful and the gown was custom. It was daring (for American fashion tbh, Americans are less daring, esp first ladies) and unusual for an inaugural gown. It’s hard to pull off a choker and Melania did. She trended less colonial and more continental today, and it’s disconcerting to some of the hayseeds.
Ivanka followed suit. They both looked fantastic.

Why is Vanky doing these modeling poses?
Why is she even in the spotlight alone? She's daughter of the President. I don't remember any other family members celebrating their association with the inaugural person to this extent - of any presidency.

Her hat looks dumb but I do not think she is trying to send any kind of message except “look at my hat.”
Yes agree. I’m annoyed with people always saying, she’s sending a message too. She isn’t that deep. She a gold digging soft core porn model. Dumb. She also has zero respect for the First Lady role. She has to go babysit her college age son.

Her dad photobombed a perfectly nice family photo. Shame.
Ivanka’s coat and her look cheap as sht. The button and lapel are whack, along with that twee dumbassed appliqué. Her hair color is really bad, and why does it look so damn wiggy?
It’s looks wiggy because it’s a wig! Her hair is very thin and shouldn’t be worn that long at all.
She has converted to Orthodox Judaism (when she married Jared), which among other things suggests married women wear wigs when out in public. Only their husbands getting to see their natural hair.
I don’t think she wore a wig every day since their wedding.

Ivanka knocked it out of the park.
(Her earlier green outfit though…. Totally cosplaying Kate Middleton. I think wearing her camel coat inside was also following Kate Middleton’s penchant for coat dresses).
Ivanka looks like a human mannequin. Her proportions are all off. Her plastic surgery is a travesty. Just so unnatural looking, so bad. Ugh
I think the black gloves are a lot with the dress. Also, Audrey Hepburn was tiny, so the embroidery covered more of her dress. Ivanka's dress looks relatively plain, though I think it has exactly the same amount of embroidery. In addition, Ivanka has a slight hunch, a lot of tall women do especially if their partners are not much taller, and that really doesn't help when trying to carry a dress like this.

Take off the flower and it even looks like her hat.

It must really burn the sons to have Ivanka on the stage.
