We have been over this SO. MANY. TIMES. She admitted to slapping/scratching him, so technically she was the abuser in the situation. They're not legally allowed to put the abuser up in a hotel room.

Legally allowed? Show me the law. It may be their policy or how they do things, but I seriously doubt there is a law.

According to the body cam footage, they had to be separated bc the police were opting to give her a citation instead of arresting her. One of them had to stay elsewhere, since they were living together in the van. Laundrie said they had no money for a hotel. The police referenced an agency called "CK," which apparently puts up victims of domestic violence or pays for their hotel rooms. They didn't call it in for her bc they had determined that she was the abuser/aggressor in the situation, based on his statements, her statements, and witness statements. In hindsight, she may have been better off had they arrested her.

*Correction: The police did not cite her, either.

They have video of a pair of flipflops just below the rear cargo door on the ground (very common for people who have RVs/campers to not wear "outside shoes" inside the living area). They also have video of the items in the front seat - a pillow in the drivers seat and a sun hat on the dashboard.

The family drove by while someone was inside the van who did not want to be seen.

He’s not really running now is he? He’s got to his safe zone because he had 13 days before a missing persons report was filed and another five-ish before the police even realized he was missing. They thought he was in that f**king house.

Now he just has to lie low in a rural area and not be seen by cameras or anyone who could recognize him from the internet or LEOs. Easier to do in South America.

Has an arrest warrant been issued? If not, he is simply letting his lawyer speak for him as opposed to being like a fugitive. Unless he is dead.

After watching the body cam, I wonder if there's any system that could have set Gabby up with immediate crisis counseling, even though she was cited as the aggressor? It was hard to see them send off a young woman who had just been bawling for an hour and was clearly shaky and uncomfortable driving alone to spend a night in a van in the desert. She clearly needed more help than to be told a cheap place to get a shower. I think the officers generally handled everything well, but social services are a major gap in the system.

I also can't help but wonder if this never would have happened if they didn't have the additional stress of trying to live a public Instagram/YouTube/blogosphere perfect life on top of the inherent stress of spending weeks or months with one other person in a tiny space. G said B didn't support her blog or believe she could do it, which, honestly, is a fair concern. Most parents would express similar doubts if their child's aspiration was to be a lifestyle blogger. He may have gaslit her and baited her (possible); he could have had malicious intent all along (less likely); or he could have just snapped from the stress (probable), maybe once or twice, or maybe repeatedly until it became a sick pattern. Then panicked.

But would that have happened without all the social media stuff?

Agreed. Did the police actually ever talk to him? What if he never came home? He could have called the parents, and they flew out to pick up the van and help him escape. Then they brought the van back to FL.

If he got out a week or more ago, he could have gone to Guinea, the Maldives, the Marshall Islands, Eastern Europe, Taiwan, the UAE...

He could easily do Brazil. His parents could have easily done a home equity loan in a day and cashed it all out. Now that the parents have been taken in, I'd bet it is for questioning about assisting him in some form or fashion.

Agree, Brazil extradites to the US. All of South America does. He would need to be in Africa, China, Russia, North Korea, etc. Not exactly easy countries to escape to.
