I was ok with the deja story, and I usually like the mixed up storyline. But I found this episode hard to watch with all the flipping around. I almost stopped watching. It was like they had a 20 minute story and filled it in with random clips.
And they could have done so much more with Deja’s story.

The Pearsons always had each other during tragedies - Deja really had no one. She was always alone - at the hospital, at home making dinner, etc. That made me so sad.
The actress who plays Deja is fantastic. That last scene with Randall, when she said, "I'm just so tired," really got me. She just wanted to stop moving around and have a place to call home.
I really wonder if her mother is going to disappear from her life? I can't imagine that would help Deja in any way.
There was even a snippet of boy Jack and his brother in one of the montages.

Quit bringing on awesome actors and actresses for them to be on for 2 seconds (Pam Grier, Jamie Gertz, Sly Stallone)! Okay Sly could be busier than the former two, but still!
+1. I'd add Elizabeth Perkins to the list.

I noticed! I had been getting tired of the show, but the Deja background was interesting. It made me feel sad for foster kids. I'm rooting for Deja to grow up a happy, normal kid.
+1! I had stopped watching consistently but happened to tune into this episode. So glad, the actress playing Deja is very talented.
Will definitely be tuning in this week to see the wedding.

Lol. My heart must be lukewarm because I am not bored with the show just yet, but I'm not interested in Deja's character at all. Since they felt compelled to add a character it would have been interesting to make Deja a boy since Randall is in a house with 3 women. A boy would have brought an a more interesting dynamic and not overshadow Randall's daughters's development because depending on how long Deja sticks around she will for the most part have already gone through some famous firsts before his girls. Perhaps if the foster child had been a different race as a shout out to Randall's childhood that may have been interesting as well.
If they want to extend the family they can bring on extended family members. Rebecca has mentioned siblings. Toby has an estranged brother. Miguel has children. There may be cousins. It feels lazy to add her to the cast. It's 1 of 2 things shows do when they are on their last leg or their final season: 1) do a musical episode 2) add a family member to change things up except Randall and Rebecca's children haven't grown up and moved out yet and we're only on season 2.

That's right! I forgot about that scene. But I still agree with what the one poster wrote.

I actually loved the clips and what they brought to Deja's story. They were strategically placed (not random at all) to show the contrast of the Pearsons' lives to hers. The Pearsons having fun making bread together, and William and the girls cooking together - then showing Deja, all alone, trying to make a b-day dinner for her mom. And the scenes of Beth, Rebecca, and even Randall's birth mother giving birth - and then Shauna giving birth to Deja. It was all so interesting to see compared and contrasted versions of similar life events.
