The FBI rejected a recent White House request to publicly knock down media reports about communications between Donald Trump's associates and Russians known to US intelligence during the 2016 presidential campaign, multiple US officials briefed on the matter tell CNN.

White House officials had sought the help of the bureau and other agencies investigating the Russia matter to say that the reports were wrong and that there had been no contacts, the officials said. The reports of the contacts were first published by The New York Times and CNN on February 14.
The direct communications between the White House and the FBI were unusual because of decade-old restrictions on such contacts. Such a request from the White House is a violation of procedures that limit communications with the FBI on pending investigations.

The clueless people at the White House probably didn't even know they weren't supposed to communicate directly with the FBI.

The contacts in questions are between Russia and WH.
FBI refused to say that there were none.
Can we infer that they have enough evidence to suggest that there probably were?

The contacts between Priebus and the FBI regarding an ongoing investigation are a breach of protocol and strongly suggest an effort on the part of the WH to use the FBI for a partisan political purpose. I'm confident that Chaffetz and Issa will be issuing subpoenas any minute, right?

Dude, this one writes itself.

The NY FBI office story w/r to the Russian is a little more complex. Look no further than Sater, who is in the middle of all of this from the Russian side, who was/is also an FBI informant.

It digresses from there, but that office needs to be completely remade.

This is also interesting in light of the fact that Louise Mensch's theory that Comey is not a partisan supporting P45:
https://patribotics.wordpress.com/2017/01/17/dear-mr-putin-lets-play-chess-louise-mensch-trump-russia/

Her theory is htat Comey was forced to release that letter about Clinton right before the election, because he was forced to by Russian agents in the NYC FBI office. She kind of seems kooky to me, but I haven't seen any other narrative that does a better job linking the pieces together.

The chatter at the time was that the FBI's NYC field office was overrun with agents that had Clinton Derangement Syndrome and were threatening to leak the Weiner emails reopening if Comey didn't announce something. I find that eminently more believable than Russian agents having infiltrated the FBI. But perhaps I'm being optimistic.

Could be both. Her theory is that FBI NYC is influenced by Russia in order to help cover up Russian mob's money laundering. I'm inclined to believe that most sane people are more motivated by money than by hatred of a former FLOTUS, but it's hard to know. If the agents hated Clinton to the point of insanity, then it could be enough, I suppose.

I suspect, though, is that part of what makes PTB crazy about the Clintons is that they are a little bit dirty and greedy, but they are not truly corrupt and affiliated with organized crime or easily bribed by someone nefarious. That, incidentally, is why they always end up looking shabby. They are actually not particularly good at corruption...they have just done enough to serve themselves, not build an empire.

Yeah I agree.

In any case, FBI might have been correct both times, with Clinton and Trump, both not above reproach.
The issue is that now Clinton is irrelevant, while Trump is VERY relevant.

That's my hope too, and I am clinging to it

The fact that they did not go along with WH in this case is reassuring in one way, and scary in another way, because it means there is substance to the accusations...which is scary.
