He's desperate to create a lasting legacy. Usually that's done with legislation (since executive orders can be easily reversed) but nothing that can be passed via reconciliation is good enough for His Orangeness. So he's just going to build a ballroom and dare his successor to demolish it.

The ballroom is like his blankie. He uses it to soothe himself whenever he's stressed.

It's so maddening to read these self-serving arguments because the implication is that Trump can claim anything is important to his own or someone else's "security", undertake that thing, and never be subject to review. It's yet another claim of unfettered control by a unitary executive over the country's assets. Very kingly.

The ballroom will be built with Canadian, not American steel, and the company who gave Trump a bribe gets a tariff exemption too.
