Maureen's named for your mom. Clara because it's pretty (and you thought it was unusual when you picked it). DH got to name David. Grainne was a surprise. You picked the name and you wanted something unusual and (obviously) irish-many of the other irish name names seem too trendy to you. Luckily, even with the Grainne surprise, you and DH still have a solid marriage. I am guessing one of the girls posted this...It is her family of orgin...Siblings all born in the 1960s and 1970's. The family is from New England. Mother was a WASP and from money. She went to a girls' college. Father was less WASPY. Very preppy family. Vacationed at longtime family cabin on Lake Winnepasaukee. Most of these siblings went to good colleges like Williams and Middlebury and Swarthmore. All are married now with kids and some are in the DC area. Nice family. Very athletic. Mom liked to play tennis. Father was an engineer or teacher. Mom was a SAHM but took up painting after the kids were grown. Parents are still together and still live in the same house.

But what's up with Tara? Did Mom name her after that character on Days of Our Lives? That's what Aunt Mimi accused of her doing -- that . that was pretty harsh when she said Mom was spending altogether too much time sitting around watching soaps and getting fat, but you know what? Aunt Mimi really did Mom a favor. She started playing tennis again and volunteering more. She ended up becoming PTA President and Chaired the Town Environmental Committee. Dad was proud of her --- it was kind of a turn-on to see how worked up she got when she came home from those evening meetings. They'd sit in the kitchen and have a glass of Chianti while she did spot-on imitations of all their neighbors. Sometimes the girls would wake up and hear them laughing. Years later, when Sally married her law school classmate Mike, she loved that they would sit up at night, drinking a beer and laughing.

Irish American family. Well, maybe half Irish. One of the parents was Catholic but now attends an Evangelical church with the parent who was just plain old Christian, but not Catholic.
