D1 player can means different things. A team from a power conference like UNC is very different than U of Arkansas - Pine Bluff

Ok, let me fix it. A UNC caliber player would still be recruited to UNC regardless if they play ECNL or GA. Would you disagree?

Do you agree that ~50% of kids going D1 come from the GA and ~50% come from ECNL?

Do you agree that 50% of ECNL girls in D1 colleges come from the top 25 clubs?

Is your daughter’s club one of the top 25 ECNL clubs?

My girl is playing D1, yes. On Scholarship, yes.

Kudos to the original poster on this topic. The inside information was of course questioned, even ridiculed by so many...just like when the initial post about BRAVE and VA Union merging last year. Soon, we will be reading about other clubs changing affiliations (I'm talking to you Arlington!).

If you don't see anything above 22 for your team, what are you so hurt about? Example, NVA's 2012s are 12th in the ECNL for their age. Just because they switch leagues are they any less quality of players? No, they're the same team and can compete with anyone else no matter the league. Is there some fine print I'm missing about ECNL guaranteeing that your kid gets a full ride to college?

If you can't understand the very large difference in number of college coaches at ECNL showcases/tournaments vs GA showcases/tournaments and the large discrepency in the number of ECNL girls in high level soccer colleges vs GA, we can't help you. The coaches are not just scouting Nationals, why is every GA hat so concerned with Nationals? College and USWNY scouts are scouting at almost every major ECNL showcase. Tournament after tournament the ECNL girls mop up on GA teams. Sure, there are a couple of GA teams here and there that are good, maybe even great. But not in THIS area. There is not a local GA team that could hold a candle to the ECNL talent in this area. So this move means that the quality of teams the Loudoun girls will be playing week in and week out will go drastically down. One of the best ways to get better is to play quality opponents. That is why we think ECNL is so much better for our daughter in THIS area. I know that you will respond with some nonsense that GA is the future because a couple of teams defected (forgetting about all the GA teams that moved to ECNL the last few years). But that is just speculation and the simple numbers of scouts and placement at colleges are facts.

What you don't understand is that you're comparing numbers of an established entity (ECNL) to 4yrs of GA. If your kid is already in their recruiting cycle, then obviously it makes no sense to move them to the GA environment. Your unwillingness to accept that the landscape is changing and will look completely different for girls 2010 and younger over the next few years is the problem. Having coaches that were paid to show up to an event to see where they know the current talent is isn't something to brag about. It's a no brainer for the moment. In THIS area, NVA leaving ECNL has shifted the future strength of girls soccer to the GA. I don't know what year your kid is, but anyone with access to the internet can look at the current standings and see that 2010 and above ECNL holds the torch in this area compared to GA. Younger than that is where the change exists. McLean's 2013s are top 10 in the country. Loudoun's 2013s aren't far behind, nor SYC. That makes the top 3 2013 teams GA in this area. SYC's 2012s beat both Union and dominated Arlington. NVAs 2012s are #1 in the Mid Atlantic which means that if the teams hold together, the top 2 teams at that age group in the DMV will be GA teams. If Alexandria is added in, that likely makes 3 of the top 4 (unions 2012s are solid and ASA has already beaten Arlington in a scrimmage). So by all means look out for your kid's best interest, but don't go putting your head in the sand.

Keep clutching your u12 and u13 rankings. Things change. Players grow and players quit. Your blind faith in NVA is interesting considering they have more resources than any club in virginia other than Arlington and they’re still an embarrassment.

I'm glad you understand. Things change...

You bring up an interesting point about THIS area. ECNL hats like to point out the number of college coaches is higher at ECNL events which is absolutely true. But in THIS area, most kids are interested in colleges up and down the east coast. When you start to look at the colleges who attend ECNL events but not GA, you see that a lot of them are from Utah, Omaha, west Texas, Oregon, Arkansas. In other words, not the colleges kids from THIS area are interested in. The number of college coaches is more similar when you are only considering eastern US which is where GA happens to also be strongest. If your daughter is interested in primarily eastern colleges, playing for a GA club in THIS area will give her all the exposure she needs. Especially when you also include the non-league events she will go to where the eastern colleges also attend (Jeff Cup, PDA showcase, VDA showcase, Penn Fusion showcase). If your daughter doesn't get recruited is won't be because she is playing GA and not ECNL.

GA just got a bunch of those magical talented ECNL players. Doesn’t that improve GA talent in this area? Yes ECNL still has more but the gap is closing.
why is everyone assuming the girls are staying. The creme of the crop will bounce. Some extreme parents (who may be dealing with external DODGEY pressures may even leave the area for better futbol.

Because no club is safe right now, and there is no telling what’s going to happen next.

Their best bets are to stay put. No reason to jump at U13 and under….

Who knows, there might not be an ecnl club in Nova soon
