Who said that? Ernst seems to be supporting him.

Really? Ernst spent a lot of time pushing to get women in combat, for veterans, for accountability for sexual assault in the military. And she’s going to support???

Republicans are expected to adopt the policies and doctrine of the party. So yes she will fall in line and support this guy. She will not “push for women in combat”, help vets(VA and disability payments are to be cut) or have accountability for sexual assaults in the military.

I really don’t understand how these republicans can live with themselves. What’s the point of it all if you don’t stand for something?

They say the same about you, that's why it's called an ideological divide.

I’m genuinely curious. What do you mean by that? Ernst has made her definition of a stronger military the touchstone of her public service career. Now she’s going to just let it all go? Not stand on principle? How on earth is that an ideological divide?

NP... from where I'm standing, the only GOP "principle" I see anymore is "whatever Trump wants, he gets" and whatever Republicans stood for in the past is now dust and ash.

Ernst is a flip flopper and goes whichever way the wind blows-whatever it takes to remain in office or get paid more.

She was threatened by Musk and the Rogans to support a primary challenger in 2026, if she did not bend the knee and do as told. You know as a female who was sexually assaulted in the military, she does not support Hedgdog.

She is up for re-election in Iowa in 2026. She also expressed an interest in a position in Trump's administration over the summer, should he win.

More than any of the Senators who will potentially oppose Hegseth, Ernst is in genuine danger of being primaries. She also may be bribed with a promise of an administrative appointment.

Trump's people on the Hill have been going around threatening to hire private investigators to go after any GOP Senator who votes against Trump's nominees, and threatening to primary them (presumably using whatever they dig up with the investigations). Ernst has some skeletons with her divorce and likely had a relationship with a subordinate when she was in the military. There may be more.

It sucks because Hegseth is not qualified and shouldn't be SecDef. But elections have consequences and this is one of the consequences of electing Trump. Counting on Joni Ernst to stop him was always a fool's errand.

Collins, Murkowski, and McConnell all still have some independence. And Thom Tillis is less beholden to Trump than most because despite going for Trump in 2024, NC is pretty purple and just elected a Dem as governor. We'll see. But they're all republicans and odds are good they'll support the republican president.

They need four republicans and all the Dems and Independents to vote against the drunk SECDEF nominee. Tillis, Collins and Ernst are up for reelection in 2026. So, they need two of them plus Murkowski and McConnell to vote no. Interesting

Okay well starting with Iowa.... Do they want this hard drinking abuser of women or do they think that this country can do better? What do you say Iowa and what are you saying to your senator?

Yes, she has been threatened by that Dan Bongoglino and other right-wing podcasters. They told her she would end up like Cheney, Romney, et al if she did not support all of Trump's nominees. Hedgehog is the sphere, and Republicans most hold the ground.

PP asking about Ernst so thank you for your thoughts. It’s depressing not so much because I had expectations that she would stop him. But I had a romantic notion that she wouldn’t be such a turncoat.

Collins has just come out with her standard “can’t endorse him until the FBI investigation” but we all remember Kavanaugh.

No. I fully expect this guy to be confirmed. And he’s no less than I expect from MAGA. A weak person with a hollow smile and slicked back hair.

Sure, and if was to do a good job you would never admit it. Hey OP, if your going to spew BS at least spell the guy's name right.

We all admit that the current guy is not doing a good job. But I guess you don't think the next guy should do better.
