My guess --- and it is a guess -- not reports or other information --- is that the ACC makes the offer Thursday.
Stanford pretending they have options is cute
They do. Independent. Not a long term fix but buys them a couple/few years.
They could do an ND and go ind. for football and ACC for all other sports.
Why would the ACC agree to that? That's all the downside of a west coast member without their market for football
Because it gets them in the door. Same reason they did it for ND. Increases the chance that they come in for football.
Stanford is not ND. They are probably looking at the MWC (assuming the MCW even wants them) or the AAC
They cannot go to either because there is no competition for them there for most sports. Stanford would own the ACC for most Olympic sports never mind those conferences.

This would destroy Stanford's other sports. Too much mid-week long-distance travel.
Becoming an independent for a year may be the better option for Stanford. The ACC would require a long-term commitment for a short-term relationship due to the extensive travel demands.
I get it but Stanford is already all in on this.
They would have a tough time putting together a football schedule let alone a schedule for non-revenue sports
Football schedule would be easy easy. I agree on the others.
Also for every sport except football, basketball, women's soccer, and women's LAX, Stanford would be the run away favorite.

Next year, 4 West Coast universities will join the Big Ten Conference and be able to vote on applications for membership in the conference. Stanford won't be accepted because USC, UCLE, U Washington, & U Oregon do not want any other competition for the top West Coast football recruits. There would be a chance for Stanford after next year, but it would be tied to Notre Dame.
Stanford may have to consider downgrading its football program as options for a Power 4 Conference are not attractive or are not realistic options.
