I'd like to nominate that remark as best post of the thread.

16:45, congratulations on the outcome, and thanks for a moving comment.

16:45 here. You are most welcome. I've read so many hurtful comments, when in reality, parents who appeal are simply trying to do what is best for their child, through a process the outcome of which they cannot control. In my case, I believed that my child could benefit from AAP. Had the committee not agreed, I would not believe in her any less.

We were in pool last year (Sorry, cannot remember all the scores now) but ds's highest CogAT was 148. We could not afford the WISC last year or this year. Appealed last year, without new scores, just new work samples/letters and were denied. GBRS last year was 9. This year, we parent referred (they used last years CogAT and Naglieri), hoping a new GBRS would be just the ticket. His current teacher really recognized his strengths, was patient with an immature boy, and happened to be the AAP Local Level IV math/science for his grade. His GBRS this year was 11, no new test scores, and we made it in the first round (in addition we submitted new work samples, letters, etc.).
I was slightly concerned that he would be behind, his teacher assures me he will do just fine.
So, he will be entering AAP as a 4th grader next Fall.

Indeed very close to #8. Good thing that your DC gets another chance in 3rd grade.
Try for Level III, then get new GBRS.

Hopeful here.

DD was accepted on appeal. FWIW, she did not test into the initial pool (Naglieri 119/GBRS 12). We referred her to the initial pool with the following GMU-generated WISC scores:

WISC IV: VCI 140, PRI 133, WMI 120, PSI 121, FSIQ 138.

This didn't get her in on the initial round. Also, fwiw, we did not prepare her for the GMU test, and we did not prepare her again when we tested privately for new information on appeal. We simply told her that she was going to talk to someone for a few hours and he/she would ask her questions. The psychologist administered the Stanford Binet and Woodcock Johnson. DD had good results but lower than the GMU FSIQ. It looks like the consistency in her out-of-school testing scores swayed the committee.

Congratulations to all who appealed, successful or not, for believing in their child and pursuing the process.

Hello all. I am the mom of Number 16 on the very latest list (I had been number 18 with the smiley face on the list posted on page 46.) Just wanted to send warm thoughts to the parents of Number 10 -- your numbers looked very good and I bet you just missed it (I know that's probably not making you feel too great, but wanted to let you know that we're thinking of you). Maybe you can push for accelerated pull-outs in third grade (so DC does not get behind in compacted math) then try again in third. Good luck to your family, and I have no doubt that your DC will have a fantastic future ahead.

We're in! Don't think we were on the list - FSIQ 128, VCI 119, PRI 117, WMI 123, PSI 131, GBRS 12. Congrats to all who made it!

It's looking that way... 14:21's post just made my day -- I am just so psyched to see that their DC's WISC FSIQ of 127 was able to overcome the GBRS of 8...

looks like any wisc score greater than 125 is getting in.
even though for some of the kids with cogat/nnat 140+ didnt get in first round, 125+ wisc seem to get them in.
so, basically, looks like the committee is looking for consistency in performance.
